He owns 125 acres of land, which he utilizes for dairy purposes. He has a herd of forty cows. Mr. Simms is one of the best known agriculturists in the county and has held some important offices. He was clerk of the county from 1874 to 1880, and has twice been under sheriff of the county. He was also a justice of the peace for many years. In his earlier years he studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1855, at which date he cast his first vote. He is a Republican. In 1858 he married Emeline Churchill, and has a family of two sons and one daughter.
