Author: Hardin & Willard

Smith, George M., was born in Herkimer November 28, 1825, and is one of the old
residents and a scion of one of the old historic families of the county. His 
ancestors on both sides took part in the Revolutionary war and his grandmother 
was scalped, yet lived forty years afterwards. A bloody massacre took place on 
this farm, and the old house in which his grandparents lived forms a part of 
his abode. He married in 1847, and has two children: Charles S. and Mary Ann. 
Charles S. is married to Miss Libby Bacon.   Mr. Smith has ninety-six acres of 
fine dairy land.
