Mrs. Spellman died in Ireland, and in 1860 Mr. Spellman came to America, where he lived until his death in 1882. Joseph was reared on a farm, and when a young man left his native land and came to America. He married Anna O'Conner, a native of Ireland, by whom he has had the following children: Aurora, Edward, Dennis, Minnie, James and Annie. Mr. Spellman is a farmer and owns 135 acres of land in Newport. In politics he is a Democrat, and in religion he and family are Catholics.
