(Eckler) Springer. The grandfather, Loadwick, was born in Rensselaer county, and of Holland parents. His father, Jacob, was taken prisoner by the Indians during the Revolution and was a prisoner seven years. Loadwick died in June, 1857, aged over eighty, a captain of militia and a Republican. His wife died in 1820. They had a large family: Betsey, Polly, Jacob, George, David, Martin, Nicholas, Philip and Daniel. David H. was born in Stark where he always lived. His wife survives him, and is of the Lutheran faith. They had four children: Loadwick, Franklin, George and Daniel, all living. Loadwick was raised on a farm, received a district school education, and lived with his father until after the war. He enlisted in August, 1864, in the navy and served on the Texas Coast. He was discharged at Brooklyn in June, 1865. He lived with his father for a couple of years, where lie and his brother Frank bought 104 acres in Warren. Later he came to Stark and bought eighty acres. He finally located where he now resides, on 187 acres, also owning another farm of 205 acres in Stark. He has made his own way through life, has served in town offices and is a Republican. He married January 1, 1867, Diantha, daughter of Richard and Mary A. (Fetterly) Shaul of Stark, who had six children: Rose, Eltha, Ella, Amelia, Sallie, and George, who died at twenty. Subject and wife have three children: Ella, wife of Frank Harris: Carrie and Myrtia. They are of the Universalist faith.
