His grandfather, William Swift, came from Massa- chusetts and died in Warren. John Swift was born in Massachusetts; his wife was born in Warren and is a daughter of William and Mary (Biggs) Green. They had three children, two survive: Thomas A and Timothy C. The latter was raised on a farm and at the age of twelve began working for himself by the day and month. In 1871 he began cheese making at Crain's Corners, where he has since lived, carrying on both cheese-making and farming. He also operates two other factories and owns a half interest in 190 acres of land, besides seven acres where he lives. He is a Republican and a Mason. He married in January, 1867, Catherine, daughter of John Wagner, of Danube. They have one child, Eugene C.
