Author: Hardin & Willard

Whitfield, Walter, German Flats, was born in Manchester, England, in 1844, and 
came to America in 1850, settling in Ilion.  He was for many years in the gun 
shops here, in the pistol department.  He entered the armory in 1859, but has 
been in the Typewriter company since its organization.  In 1861 he enlisted in 
the 101st New York Infantry, and served two years.  Mr. Whitfield is a Mason, 
and a member of Little Falls Commandery, No. 26.  In 1865 he married Emily 
Iles, and they have three children living.
