He received his education in the schools of Herkimer and commenced life as a painter and marble cutter, in which lines he has worked here for eighteen years, being engaged in one shop for nine years.In 1875 Mr. Wilson was elected constable and chief of police under the old board. In 1887 he was appointed chief uner the new board of the paid department, which position he most acceptably filled until 1891, when he was elected sheriff of Herkimer county, being elected in a Republican county of 800 to 1,000 majority upon a Democratic ticket with a majority of 178. Sheriff Wilson is a leader of the celebrated Glee Club which has participated for so many years in political campaigns. His wife was Miss Jennie Hall of Norway. They have two children.
