Amen I David Dodge of the Town of Cape Vincent Jefferson County New York being of sound mind & memory & Considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make, ordain, publish & declare this to be my Last Will & Testament that is to say : First- After all my lawful debts are paid & discharged I give & bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Louisa Dodge for & during the term of her natural life the use of one cow to be selected by her from any cows owned by me at my decease, such household furniture as she may desire for her own use &, the privilege of any room in the house she may chose to occupy & in case the said cow shall die my Executor hereinafter named shall supply her with one equally good &, this he shall continue to do whenever occasion shall require &, in case the cow should by reason of age or otherwise cease to be of value as a good milch cow my said executor shall at my said wife's request replace the cow by one equally good as the former cow was when first received by her. The exchange of cows hereinabove provided for &, the provision made to give the use of a cow to my said wife is not made a charge upon my estate but my said Executor Orlando D. Dodge shall keep his said mother as a foresaid provided with a cow at his own proper cost &, expense after the delivery to her of the first cow as above provided &, in case of her exchange he shall have the cow so received from my said wife in exchange for the one he shall furnish her. My doing is being to keep my said wife supplied with a good milch cow but this provision shall not be considered to require my said son to keep his said mother supplied at all times with a cow giving milk. My said wife shall not sublet her said room to any person or either shall she rent or let the said cow or any article or articles of personal property to any one & neither shall she be permitted to remove any of the said property from the premises where I now reside. I further direct that my said son Orlando shall provide his own cost &, expense food &, pasturage for his mothers cow &, the same shall be driven by him or his servants to & from pasture at proper times without expense to my said wife. The increase of said cow shall belong to my said son Orlando D. I further give &, bequeath to my said wife the sum of two hundred Dollars yearly for &, during the term of my wife's life to be paid her from my son Orlando D. Dodge which the ? is made a charge upon the property herein after divided ?. The said sum is intended for my wifes support & maintenance & is to be paid quarterly by my said son Fifty (50) Dollars every three months &, my said wife may use the same purely for her own support &, personal wants but she shall not donate the same or any part thereof to any person &, any money which she may possess at her demise ?discoed from said source shall belong to my said son Orlando D. Dodge. Second: I give &, bequeath to my daughter Sophronia A. Gould the sum of One Hundred (100) Dollars without interest payable within one year after my demise by my said son Orlando D. Dodge. Third: I give &, bequeath to my daughter Melissa Seeley the sum of One hundred (100) Dollars payable without interest within Eighteen months after my demise by my said son Orlando D. Fourth: I give &, bequeath to my daughter Marises L. Dodge the sum of Five hundred (500) Dollars payable without interest by my said son Orland D. Dodge within two years after my demise. Fifth: I give &, bequeath to my said son Orlando D. Dodge the residue of my personal property &, any real estate known as the Homestead farm being all the real estate I now own subject to the charges herein above expressed &, also the personal property herein above bequeathed to my said wife after the devise to her shall have ceased by her death &, I hereby make my said son Orlando the residuary legatee to receive my property which I may own at my death not herein above specifically bequeathed or devise it. The provision herein above made by me for my said wife shall be taken by her in lieu of Dower &, she shall not receive the same unless she shall renounce her rights independent of this wife at Common Law &, hinder the ? of this State. Likewise: I make constitute & appoint my son Orlando D. Dodge to be executor of this my last Will &, Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Francis ?Fitch Cape Vincent, New York Codicil State of New York Jefferson County Whereas I David Dodge having made my Last will and Testament in writing bearing date Sept. 8th 1870 and witnessed by Wallace Bedle of the Town of Cape Vincent New York and Francis ? Fitch of the Town of Cape Vincent New York Now I do by this my written instrument which I hereby declare to be a codicil to my said will to be taken as a part thereof: 1st Know and herby revoke that portion of my said wife which relates to my daughter Mariza L. Dodge. This revocation intending to include also my said daughters heirs. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-first day of June 1876.
