A. Elmore. Removed to an Asylum in Massachusetts After the wife of Henry S. Elmore had procured a divorce from him, as recently reported in the EAGLE, he married Mrs. E. A. Hutchins, with whom he was implicated in the divorce proceedings. In the decree of divorce granted by the Supreme Court of New York State Mr. Elmore was require to abstain from marriage until the death of the plaintiff in the suit, Mrs. Adeline Elmore. Mr. Elmore was obliged to pay his divorced wife $7,607.91 as alimony. A little over a week ago the following appeared among the marriage notices in the EAGLE: ELMORE-HUTCHINS--At Hamilton, Ontario, on the 28th day of November last, by the Rev. D. H. Fletcher, H. S. ELMORE to Mrs. E.A. HUTCHINS, both of this city. The announcement of the marriage caused consider- able surprise, and before the acquaintances of the parties have recovered from their astonishment, it is reported that Mrs. E. A. Elmore has become insane and is now confined in a private lunatic asylum in Massachusetts. Careful inquiry to-day confirmed the report that the second Mrs. Elmore is insane. Subsequent to their marriage in Canada on Thanksgiving Day, Mr. Elmore and his bride came to Brooklyn and took up their abode in Mrs. Hutchins' house on South Oxford street. Soon afterward they sold the furniture and leased the house. They then took up their residence at the Mansion House. About three weeks ago they went to New York to board. Mrs. E. A. Elmore began to manifest symptoms of mental aberration. The loss of social position caused by the publication of the details of the divorce proceedings seemed to weigh heavily on her mind. She constantly regretted her actions, it is said, believing she had committed an unpardonable sin against her first husband, who is dead. Two weeks ago she became so violent that it was found necessary to put her under restraint. The necessary legal proceedings were taken, and a certificate having been procured, she was taken to the asylum. Mr. Henry S. Elmore is a well known resident of Brooklyn, engaged in the produce business at No. 17 Moore street, New York. During the year 1877, while he boarded with Mrs. Hutchins, it is alleged his first wife discovered that he was too intimate with her. In the Spring of 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Elmore separated. Divorce proceedings were at once institued by Mrs. Elmore. The case was tried in Monroe County. It was proven by the testimony of several witnesses, that Mr. Elmore and Mrs. Hutchins had behaved improperly together at Niagra Falls, Rochester, and at Brockport, N. Y., which places they visited as man and wife. No defense was put in and Mrs. Elmore was granted a divorce on the ground of adultery. Mr. Henry S. Elmore was formerly a trustee of the Tabernacle and one of Mr. Talmage's right hand men. He was one of the trustees who retired because of the difficulty concerning Mr. Morgan, the organist, and he and Mr. Talmage are said to be on very unfriendl terms. Three weeks ago Mr. Elmore's excommunication from the Tabernacle membership on the ground of immorality was announced from the pulpit. Nevertheless he attended divine service in the church two weeks ago. Mr. Elmore was out of town to-day and it was said he had gone to visit his wife. Mrs. E. A. Elmore's insanity is said to be of a hopeless type, and the physicians do not think she will ever be restored. Mr. Elmore's son lives with his mother and is ingaged in business with his father. Mrs. E. A. Elmore has two children.
