She was the second wife of Henry S. Elmore, a wealthy gentleman and formerly trustee of Talmage's church, Brooklyn. Elmore's first wife obtained a divorce from him for alleged unlawful intimace with Mrs. Hutchins, who kept a fashionable boarding house in Brooklyn. The affair created a great sensation. Elmore was expelled from the church and subsequently married Mrs. Hutchins, who afterwards became insane, and was in the asylum several months. She was discharged as cured but acted strangely and threatened suicide. The jury rendered a verdict of suicide while deranged.
