At the home of her daughter in Springwater, Sunday, July 1st [1900], occurred the death of Mrs. Eleanor LEWIS DOUGHTY, at the age of 77 years, a well-known and highly esteemed lady who had resided in Naples for a number of years. On the following Tuesday funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. JANES, of the Wayland M. E. church, and to the relatives and friends who were gathered there to pay their last respects to the deceased, he spoke many words of comfort and sympathy. His text was "Blessed in the sight of the Lord is the death of a saint." The burial was at Clear View cemetary, North Cohocton. Miss Eleanor DeGOLIA was born January 9, 1823, in the town of Prattsburgh, being one of a large family, of whom a brother and sister still survive. At the age of 22 she was married to William H. LEWIS, of the same place. They first made their home in the town of Springwater, going from there to North Cohocton, where the greater part of their married life was passed. Three daughters were born to them, all of whom still survive her. From North Cohocton they removed to Wayland and lived for some years, until the husband and father was removed by death. She afterwards married Wesley DOUGHTY, of Wayland, who died several years ago, leaving her again in widowhood. She had been a consistent member of the M. E. churches in Springwater, Wayland, North Cohocton and Naples. She was of a quiet and unassuming nature, but a woman with great force of character and has left to her survivors an example of strict integrity.
