Will of Seth HOLMES, Brookfield, Madison County, New York, Will Book E,
page 74

In the name of God Amen.  I Seth HOLMES of the town of Brookfield, County of
Madison & State of New York, being of sound mind [and] memory Blessed be
Almighty God for the same & considering [the un] certainty of this mortal life
& the certainty of death do make & publish this my last will & testament. 
First of all I commend my spirit to God that gave it.  And concerning such
worldly things as it has pleased The Lord to bless me with, I give & bequeath
them as follows,

I give to my beloved wife Susan HOLMES the entire use profits & proceeds of
all my land lying the south side of the road, now running by my dwelling house
on lot number forty two in the eighteenth township in Brookfield aforesaid &
being the same on which I now reside during her natural life & to be in Lieu
of her dower in my estate.  I also give unto my said wife the use of all my
household furniture & the use of one cow & the use of ten sheep during her
natural life.

I give & bequeath to my son Harvey HOLMES all my real estate as a free gift.
I also give to my said son Harvey HOLMES all my farming utensils & tools & my
eight day clock.

I give to my five sons Viz Henry HOLMES, Horace HOLMES, Alonzo HOLMES,
Charles HOLMES & Seth HOLMES jun. one dollar each.  The reason that I give my
said five sons no more is because they have severally had their portions of my
estate previous to this date.

I give to my three daughters Viz Artamisea BRAND, Susan DALRYMPLE and Armina
WILSON one dollar each they have also severally had their portions of my
estate.

The remainder of my estate I give after paying all my just debts, funeral
charges & expenses of settling my said estate to my said son Harvey HOLMES
including all my lands & tenaments & all other property of mine.

I however hereby give to my three grandchildren Viz. Joseph DENNISON Cynthia
YORK Jervah DENNISON & Francis DENNISON five dollars each to be paid in one
year after my decease.

I hereby constitute & appoint my two sons Alonzo HOLMES & Harvey HOLMES
executors of this my last will & testament hereby revoking all former wills by
me made.

In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand & seal this forteenth day of
October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & fifty one.

Seth his X mark HOLMES

Signed sealed published & declared by the above named Seth HOLMES to be his
last will & testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our
names as witnesses in the presence of the testator & at his request.
