Dodge, who, being duly sworn, declares that she is the lawful widow of Frank M. Dodge, deceased; that he died on the 18th day of April, 1883; that he had been granted a pension by Certificate No. 79039; that he had been paid the pension by the Pension Agent at Syracuse up to the 4th day of March, 1883. Maria J. Dodge was married to the said Frank M. Dodge on the fifteenth day of October, 1867, at Seneca, in the State of New York; that her name before said marriage was Maria J. Lightfoot; that she hereby makes application for the pension which had accrued on aforesaid certificate to the date of death; and that her residence is 24 Pultney Street, City of Geneva, County of Ontario, State of New York, and her Post-office address is Geneva, N.Y. Also personally appeared Robert Carson, residing at Geneva, N.Y., and Samuel Worth, residing at Geneva, N.Y., who being duly sworn, say that they were present and saw Maria J. Dodge sign her name to the foregoing declaration; that they know her to be the lawful widow of Frank M. Dodge, who died on the 18th day of April, 1883; and that their means of knowledge that said parties were husband and wife, and that the husband died on said date, are as follows: both saw the deceased on the day of his death. Sworn to and subscribed before me on this 12th day of July, 1883, and I certify that the affiants are reputable persons; that they know the contents of their depositions, and that their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. Army of the United States Certificate of Disability for Discharge: Private Frank M. Dodge of Captain Dwight Hamilton's Company "A" of the 8th New York Regiment of United States Cavalry was enlisted on the eleventh day of April 1864 to serve three years. He was born in Livonia in the State of New York, is eighteen years of age, five feet five inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, red hair, and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty sixty days. ***Note from Raymond Grosswirth (great-great grandson of Frank M. Dodge): Frank served in the cavalry with distinction prior to his illness, having taken part in several key battles. He ultimately died of heart disease on April 18, 1883. He is buried at Sand Hill Cemetery in Flint, New York.
