AF Res., Retired. 1916-1999. It is with sadness that we report the demise of our friend Jim. A native of Rochester, NY, and a citizen of SD, he lived an interesting & satisfying 82 yrs. He traveled to the Far East, South & Central America, Canada, Alaska, Europe, including WWII experience as a B-17 pilot flying out of Africa & Italy with the 2nd Bomb Group. His 17 mo's stay at Stalag Luft I, a German POW camp, ended early May 1945 upon arrival of the Russian infantry. Jim obtained his Bachelors degree from the Univ. of Rochester & his Masters from San Diego State. He was employed by the SD Unified School Dist. as an elementary school teacher & principal. A fine gentleman, good athlete, excellent scholar, & fine photographer, he had many friends across America & western Europe. He was struck down by a major heart attack Apr.23 & died Apr.28th. Jim is survived by his sister Audrey & her husband Dan Houlihan, of Wisconsin, & family, extending to Belfast Ireland. Many knew him, all respected him, he will surely be missed for years to come. Jim's ashes will be scattered at sea. A gathering of friends is being planned.
