Connolly "Yesterday afternoon the death of John C. Connolly, ex-assistant engineer of the Rochester fire department, took place at his residence, No. 54 Charlotte street. At the time of his decease he was thirty-four years of age. Mr. Connolly was well known in this city as a businessman, soldier and fireman. Before the war he was connected with the fire department, and was soon promoted to the foremanship of hand engine No. 8. At the breaking out of the rebellion he joined the Old Thirteenth as private, and was afterwards raised to the rank of sergeant. While carrying the regimental flag into the battle of Bull's Run he was seriously wounded. Being discharged from the army he again entered the Fire Department and nearly six years ago was appointed Assistant Engineer. About a year ago his health began to fail him but he continued in his position as a steam and gas fitter in Sherlock & Sloan's employ, until his health completely gave out. He leaves a widow and two small children to mourn his loss. The deceased was a brother of ex-Alderman Connolly, Policeman Andrew Connolly, P. J. Connolly of Muskegrow, Mich., and brother-in-law of John Mooney, foreman of Active Hose Co. The funeral will take place from the residence to-morrow morning at nine o'clock and from St. Mary's Church at 9:30."
