Mooney died at 7 o'clock Saturday morning at his home on St. Paul St. of consumption. He was 35 years of age, and had for a number of years been a member of the Active Hose Company. The funeral will be held from St. Mary's Church Tuesday Morning." Rochester Daily Union & Advertiser January 30, 1883 THE FUNERAL OF JOHN B. MOONEY "The funeral of the late John. B. Mooney was held this forenoon from St. Mary's Church. The remains were viewed at the Active Hose House, where he had spent many hours during his career as a fireman. The bearers were S.S. Brewer, A.G. Hartel, James Eustice, Geo. Wells, John Tracy and Edward M. Schockley. The Actives formed a square about the hearse and marched to Vincent Street Bridge, whence the procession proceeded to the Holy Family Cemetery, where the remains were interred. A delegation from the Alerts and one from the Protectives and Chief Gibson also marched with the procession, that was lead by the 54th regiment Band."
