Brown buwbrown@comcast.net October 24, 2008, 1:08 pm Pension S 22,868 Sept. 19, 1832: Peter Lambert of Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., New York, aged 72 on August 15th last, deposed that in June 1776 he enlisted under Capt. John Winn, Lieut. Lawrence Gros and 2nd Lieut. Peter Scramling. He served in scouting from Cooperstown down the Susquehanna River, German Flats, Saratoga and Lake George, until discharged in January following. About Jan. 1, 1780, he enlisted at Canajoharie under Capt. John Denny, Lieut, Sandy Campbell. About middle of February, marched from Canajoharie to Schenectady, encamped there 2 or 3 days, then marched to Albany, where they remained 3 or 4 days. Then they marched to Fishkill landing on the Hudson River, were commanded by Col. Udly? Hay & Maj. Babs? and were kept on duty there until the 21st of Jan. following, arriving home about 10 days later. About the 25th of July 1781, he enlisted again in Albany under Capt. Livingston, Lieut. Sandy Campbell, 2nd Lieut. Matthew Trotter. Company was attached to other companies under Moyer Benscote, marched to Schoharie, remained there about a week, then marched to Cobleskill and were called by Col. Marenus Willett to march to Fort Plain, where they were stationed until about the 24th of October following, when Col. Willett marched the men to Johnstown to engage against the enemy then there under the command of Col. Walter Butler & Major Ross. He with a party of men & friendly Indians was ordered to go to Fish Creek above Fort Stanwix to destroy the boats and property of the enemy. They met with hostile Indians and were driven back, came to Herkimer, and then with Col. Willett went to West Canada Creek where the enemy were overtaken. Some fighting, when Butler & several of his men were killed, after which they marched back to Fort Plain. He continued to serve until about the 1st of January following, was then marched to German Flatts, where he was discharged. During this term he served as a second sergeant. About May 1, 1782 he again enlisted in Albany under Capt. Guy Young, Lieut. Christopher Peake, for nine months. About June 1, Capt. Young's company with one or two others under the command of Moyer Benscote marched to Schenectady, where Major Andrew Fink joined in the command. They marched from there up the Mohawk River in the county of Montgomery and were there joined by a regiment commanded by Col. Marenus Willett. Part of the company was stationed at Fort Kysor? in Palatine where they were left on duty and sent out in parties to guard the inhabitants and to Forts Clyde, Fort Windecker, Fort Plain and Fort Plank until the following fall, when they were marched to Fort Herkimer, where they were kept on duty and out in parties until the latter part of December, when they returned to Fort Plain & discharged. Served as a second sergeant. He was born in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the year 1760. When he first entered service he lived in Cooperstown, Otsego Co. The next time he entered service he lived in Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., and has resided there ever since. Signed by mark. Jonas Diefendorf, clergyman, of Canajoharie and John Brookman of Minden testified as to deponent's character and veracity. Sept. 17, 1832: Henry Sitts of Minden testified as to knowledge of deponent's military service. Nicholas Casler of Canajoharie deposed that he and Peter Lambert were both members of the same company of nine months men raised in Albany and Schenectady in the spring of 1782. Sept. 19, 1832: Jacob Waggoner & Peter Young testified to Lambert's service in 1780. May 10, 1843: Peter Lambert of Canajoharie, aged 83, deposed that he was a pensioner with an annual stipend of $75., an underpayment relative to his length of service. Asked that his pension amount might be adjusted to reflect the correct length of service.
