(1852) Spencer – On Sunday, Oct 21, Sarah Harriet, daughter of Sylvanus and Sarah J. Spencer, aged 26 years, 2 months, 12 days. “As the bird to its sheltering nest When the storm on the hills is abroad So her spirit has fled from this world of unrest To repose on the bosom of God The remains of Sarah Harriet Spencer were followed to their final resting place in Greenwood by a large gathering of sorrowing friends, to whom the remembrance of her loving, gentle disposition was very dear. On that sad Autumn day – the withered leaves fluttering to the ground, the wind singing its grand dirge in among the trees, with faint wail of the birds for the departed brightness of the summer striking sadly upon the ear and over all a somber, gloomy leaden sky – all that was perishable of this fair and good woman was consigned to the earth, while the solemn peal of the “slow sad bell” sank into the hearts of those present and filled them with a sense that the “ways of God are darkness”, but that they shall be made light in that “silent land, where there is neither love, nor tears, nor pity”. ( 1848) Non-Spencer Obituaries Stewart – On Friday morning the 7th ist, of dropsy on the brain, George Washington, youngest son of John & Anne Stewart, aged 3 years and 5 months. (On the same page with Eveline Minnie Spencer making the year 1852) These were all cut from newspapers and glued into the bible on the same page. Things in parentheses I have added for clarification.
