Knox, 1885 In 1771 William Hawkhurst procured a grant for the sole making of anchors and anvils in this city and province for the term of thirty years. It expired May 321, 1801. I am not certain that he lived to enjoy it the full term. He or his son went into business as late as 1795 under the firm of Hawkhurst and Franklin, ironmongers, 309 Pearl Street. They moved to Water Street and did not dissolve until 1809. He left many descendents.
