Afterwards went to Lina's , spent two hours there & had a long talk with Eugene of old times. Thursday January 2, 1908 Arranged the bills &c. Home all day, wrote Jessie. Read to Fannie. Mrs Madden here. Friday January 3, 1908 Mass at 10.A.M. Walked home with Lina. Phoned Alice thanked her for letter & check. Fannie & I walked on Riverside. Gave $1.00 for flowers for January. Mrs Madden here. Jack here talked of looking for a boarding place. Saturday January 4, 1908 We expected Tommy to arrive from Europe & watched for him until dark. Alice phoned & will subscribe for music for the pianola. Very cold & windy. Sunday January 5, 1908 Church at 11. A.M. Father Ritchie preached & celebrated. Lina was at church & Eugene met her here - cold & windy & we remained at home. Howard & Lillias here for 4 ock tea. Epiphany Monday January 6, 1908 Mass at 7. Father R. celebrated. Letter from Tommy, expects to sail Wednesday 8th. Tom heard of Judge Barttell's serious illness at the U.L. Club. He phoned Mr Roosevelt who replied Barttell was very ill. Mr Gourand phoned to know if Tommy had arrived. Rained all day Tuesday January 7, 1908 I made a mistake about Barttell's illness, it was today. Tom phoned me & Mr R. Mr Gourand phoned this eve "if Tom had arrived". Read "Mr Anstruthur &c." Mended my jacket. I phoned Alice to tell her of Barttell's illness. Fair & lovely Wednesday January 8, 1908 Fannie at embroidery class. I went to Lina's found her in bed. I phoned Fannie Perkins & wrote to her & to O'Neill ordering a carpet sweeper $2.50 - ordered the plant for table .75. Paid Ice Bill $3.36. Gave Fannie $5.00. Fannie & I went to the Missionary Meeting. Ada Hildt called, had tea, brought me a rose. Her 36 Birthday. Sent A.D. [or H?] ticket. Fannie phoned good bye - going tomorrow to see Lavinia [?] Fannie & I out for a walk bought shoes for Fannie - stopped at McCurdys & Flato about the lamp - carpet sweeper from O'Neills $2.50 Cold & Clear Friday January 10, 1908 Mass at 10. Mrs Fosdick walked home with us. I went down town, bought drawers $6.00 - for 12 pairs, china pitcher, plates $1.40. After lunch I read The Shuttle while Fannie embroidered. Cable from Tommy - sails to day from Bordogne - on President Lincoln. Afternoon we walked on Riverside. Eugene here. Sunday January 12, 1908 Poured early this morning & we did not go out until 10:30. Father B. celebrated. M.Y. walked home with us. Wrote Barretts to lunch Tuesday. Pleasant Monday January 13, 1908 Read the Shuttle aloud. Mrs Fosdick here this afternoon . Fannie & I called on Mrs Baston. Cups from Macys - wrote to return them. Tuesday January 14, 1908 Cold & Cloudy Mass at 7. A.M. F.B. Afterwards at 11 A.M. the "C.B.S." had requiem Mass & Fannie & I were there & met Miss Barretts & Rev Mr Stewart. Asked them to lunch they went to their sisters. Violet lunched with us sent me some roses. Fannie called at Mrs Burnetts & met me at Lina's. Alice sent things from A. N. C. Lovely Wednesday January 15, 1908 We went to Wolfe corset maker - ordered 2 corsets for Fannie 8.70. Nellie Loring called while we were out. Kate Dinsmore phoned & so did Jessie & Alice later. Cold & Clear Friday January 17, 1908 Tom had slight bilious attack - I did not go to Mass. Fannie went. Tom in bed all day - not feeling well. Dr Johnson here in the evening. Jack here. Tom had uncomfortable night. I phoned Pianola promised to sent it Saturday. Lovely Saturday January 18. 1908 Dr Johnson here - Tom much better. Pianola came. Eugene here. Alice phoned. Beck sent a turkey by mistake, I returned it. Lovely Sunday January 19, 1908 Last night I drank cold milk & it made me ill. No one at church to day. Tom much better still in bed. Eugene & Lina here after church. Alice phoned. I called up Dr Johnson if Tom could have an egg. "Yes. Lovely Monday January 20, 1908 Dr Johnson here. Tom dressed & in Tommy's room. Alice sent check for two weeks. Pianola was adjusted to day. Tuesday January 21, 1908 Linda Larned here we went down town together. I bought tea cups - stopped at Macy's. Fannie Perkins phoned. Called up Lina. Paid $1.10 for 3 boxes ?erd for Tom. Marconi from Tom "Rough weather, slow boat, hope to arrive Friday". Wednesday January 22, 1908 Dr Johnson called. Tom much better, dressed & in the parlor. Mrs de Peyster here. I went out with Lina. Nella Hamilton phoned. Pianola concert this evening. Lina phoned. Susan Hoyt in bed with measles. Thursday January 23, 1908 Cloudy - Eugene here this morning. Phoned to H.A.S.S. Co. about the Lincoln due tomorrow. Maren out. Friday January 24, 1908 Blizzard. Awful day in doors all day. Phoned about the Lincoln. Called up Alice. Fannie Perkins called me. Lovely & clear Saturday January 25, 1908 Tommy phoned from Hoboken he would be here at noon. Tommy & I at breakfast together. Tom at Dr Johnson paid his bill $21.00 Pauline sailed for Antwerp on Zealand. Thursday January 30, 1908 In bed with a bad cold all day. Friday January 31, 1908 In bed - cold & stormy. Stormy Saturday February 1, 1908 I had been up all day. Alice phoned. Sunday February 2, 1908 Very cold - all in the house. Tommy home too & did not go out & we had dinner together. Tom dined down town. Fannie has had cold. Monday February 3, 1908 Very cold. Tommy went out in the afternoon. Fannies cold little better. Tommy dined here. Called on Dr Johnson in the evening. 2 cables for Tommy. Wednesday February 5, 1908 Fannie walked out this afternoon. I posted my Sunday envelope. $1 for flowers & Missionary gave Brown check $50.00 Leicht $44 - paid for Tommy tailor bill 6.25. Mrs Madden. Tom had letter from Ricer. We had a delightful evening. Tommy telling Paris stories. Thursday February 6, 1908 Snowy & then clearing. Dr Wardell here - 2 treatments. Jessie phoned. My cold prevented my going to see her. Tommy feeling fine. Coming home this evening the cable car ran into an automobile smashed it & injured the occupants. Tommy helped the chauffeur &c. Maren out. Tom went to Keith's. Tommy dined out. Friday February 7, 1908 Very cold - in all day. Fannie went to 200. Letter from F. Perkins. I wrote Dr. W. Saturday February 8, 1908 Very cold. Tom had a call in the evening from Dr Brown. Alice phoned. Tom's birthday 67. Sunday February 9, 1908 Too cold for early church. We went at 11. M. Young walked home with us. Tom & Tommy went to lecture on Fez [?]. Monday February 10, 1908 Tom complained of his eye paining & later Dr Johnson came & ordered ice clothes & he has had a serious time. Dr Johnson. Tuesday February 11, 1908 Tom's eye was very painful - it is better but is in serious condition. I kept ice clothes on. Lina phoned. Fannie Perkins in bed with cold. Dr J. here this morning & afternoon. Wednesday February 12, 1908 Tom had a comfortable night - Dr Johnson here once to day. Tom's eye is better he is still in bed. Tommy dined out. Thursday February 13, 1908 Rainy. Dr Johnson here at 10. Dr Wardell - 2- Tom sat in the library - eye much better. Friday February 14, 1908 Dr Johnson here afternoon. Tommy went to Opera with Mrs Neilson. Tom better. Tommy opera with Mrs Neilson. Saturday February 15, 1908 In all day with Tom - wrote Jessie. Sunday February 16, 1908 Sunday - but no one went to church. Tom's eye was not as well & we would not leave him. Dr Johnson here Lina, Donald - Emma called. Lowe sent up a green shade for Tom's eye. Charming Saturday February 29, 1908 Fannie & I walked on the Riverside after going to market. Paid $8.50 to Fitztheau. After lunch went again to Riverside for three hours. Wrote Tommy. Had a restless night. Sunday March 1, 1908 Lovely in the morning -when we went to 8. Mass Women's Guild C. communion. Church at 10:30. Lina there – M.Y. Tommy came in about 3:30 – staid an hour. Tom home all day. Maren out. Snowed very hard this afternoon. Monday March 2, 1908 Rained all day. Tommy here. Pianola repaired. Phoned Alice. Tuesday March 3, 1908 Shrove Tuesday. Fannie & I went out about one oclock. Tommy home until six. I phoned Lina & congratulated her – her birthday. Fair Wednesday March 4, 1908 Ash Wednesday. Fannie & I went to 7. We phoned her. Read Mr Le Gay's death Sunday in Paris. Paid Monroe Laundry bill 34 cts. No one called. Phoned Jessie Fanshawe. She had gone to see Isabel. We expected the Fanshawe girls but it was too stormy. Friday 15th Rain Cleared in afternoon. We were not at Mass. Tommy went out before lunch. No letters. Phoned Plaza. No one home. Sunday 17th Stormy Blizzard. Indoors Monday Very cold Paid baker Minneau $10.00 on account. Tommy not home for dinner. 19th Tuesday – check cashed Alice's & phoned her Mrs Ames here & Mrs Lampher Wednesday 20th Paid Harman $10.00 Emma Edsall for lunch.
