IMPERATORE-George E., 82, of Boca Raton, Florida formerly of Franklin Lakes died on June 25, 2004 in Boca Raton. Family sources report that Mr. Imperatore's death resulted from a chronic heart condition. Mr. Imperatore was born in West New York, New Jersey, educated in the local schools, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. and as a Seabee in the Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge from the service, Mr. Imperatore and four of his brothers founded in 1947 what became A-P-A Transport Corp., which was for many years one of the most successful transporation companies in the United States. Mr. Imperatore served A-P-A, based in North Bergen, New Jersey with terminals throughout the eastern United States and Canada, as Executive Vice President and Director of Sales until his retirement from A-PA in 1982. Among many transportation industry honors and distinctions that Mr. Imperatore earned was his Presidency for many years of the Traffic Club of Northern New Jersey. Upon his retirement from A-P-A, Mr. Imperatore and two of his sons founded in 1985 Imperatore Courier Systems, Inc., a courier service based in Little Ferry, New Jersey. Mr. Imperatore was also a significant investor in real estate projects in New Jersey and in Florida, to which he moved in the early 1990's. Mr. Imperatore was extremely committed to a large number of charitable and civic causes, including The Paige Whitney Babies Center in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Deborah Hospital in New Jersey, The Boy Scouts of America and The American Cancer Society. Mr. Imperatore also served with distinction as Vice Chairman of The Palisades Interstate Commission in New Jersey and New York in the late 1980's, in which capacity Mr. Imperatore assisted in curbing development above The Palisades in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Imperatore is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Boca Raton; his sister, Anna Kortrey of Bogota, New Jersey and his brother, Arthur E. Imperatore, Sr. of Weehawken, New Jersey; five sons, George G. of River Vale, New Jersey; Mark H. of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey; Harold J. of Basking Ridge, New Jersey; John A. of Wyckoff, New Jersey; Luke E. of Riverside, Connecticut; and sixteen grandchildren. At the age of 96, died peacefully of natural causes in Long Branch, NJ on June 25, 2004. A resident of Palm Beach, Florida, she was a nationally acclaimed bridge player, the fifth woman to achieve Life Master ranking and a member of the only allfemale team ever to win the coveted Reisenger Cup, one of the major national open events. She was respected not only for her brilliant card play but also for her lovely demeanor at the table. Over the years, she was as smart as she was beautiful. Her brains complimented her glamour, she had wisdom with graciousness,-and a woman widely admired by friends and family-a truly beautiful woman in every sense of the word. After a brief career in show business, she was always up for a good party. She also served as a Nurse's Aid during all of World War II. She had three happy marriages: first to Edward Bacher, a World War II Admiral, then to Maurice Levin, a prominent real estate developer, and finally to Lloyd Ribner, an amateur golf champion. A loving and tender mother, she is survived by her two sons, Donald Bacher and Fred Bacher from her first marriage, along with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. On June 26, 2004 at age 84 of Lymphoma, of Piedmont, CA. Predeceased by Dora, his beloved wife of 57 years. Loving father of his daughter Patti Ruvkun of Oakland, CA, his son Gary and his wife Natasha Ruvkun of Newton, MA; and son Rick and his wife Julie Ruvkun of New York, NY. Predeceased by his brothers Sydney and Louis and sister Dorothy. Loving grandfather to his three grandchildren: Carolyn, Andrew and Victoria. He graduated from University of California at Berkeley, with a BS in civil engineering in 1941. He served his country as a Lieutenant and Naval Seabee during World War II where he supervised construction in Okinawa. Sam had a distinguished career of over forty years as a civil engineer for Kaiser Engineers. He led his firm's effort in Latin America and served as a Vice President. The entire Yeshiva University community and its affiliated Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary express profound sorrow over the passing of a devoted leader of Yeshiva University who also dedicated a lifetime of professional service to the building of the State of Israel. Known far and wide as a passionate and imaginative fundraiser, he served as Vice President for Development of the University for almost 12 years and was the grand architect of substantial and unparalleled growth in its fundraising. A Benefactor and honorary alumnus of YU, he established David H. Zysman Scholarship Funds on behalf of RIETS and all of the affiliated schools of the University and played a major role in the founding of YU's Sy Syms School of Business. The historic Main Building on the University's Wilf Campus was named David H. Zysman Hall in his honor in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to Yeshiva University and the world Jewish community. For 35 years he served as national director and New York director of Israel Bonds, which he helped found, and helped generate more than $10 billion in sales on behalf of Israel. Condolences are extended to his sister Rosita (and Philip) Shamis, and to his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and to his longtime friend, Zipora Koppel.
