Proved January 25, 1765 In the Name of God Amen I Jeremiah Van Rensselaer being at present in a Weak state but injoying My usual understanding Think it proper as I know not the Issue of my Disorder to make my Will And after commending my soul to God hoping for his mercy through the meritorious attonement of Jesus Christ, and my Body to the earth to be interred in such manner and at such an expense as my Executors may think Decent, I dispose of my whole Estate as Follows ~ Imprimis I give and Devise all my Estate both Real and Personal to my wife Judith and to her heirs and asigns forever, being sensible that it will not be more than sufficent to maintain her with Decency and reposing a confidence in my Fathe[r]s affection to my son and being asured that my wife will at all Ev asist my said son to the utmost of her Po Nevertheless I cannot help recommending my wife in her circumstanes will afford it To make a Disposition of such part of my Estate as she may think fit to my Bothers and Sisters <\ across final s> Schuyler declaring however that I do not mean by this to lessen the absolute Devise above mentioned in her favor but only to signify that I wish if she has no occasion for what I have given her it may pass to my said brothers and sister for whom I have a particular affection and not to strangers ~~ Lastly I hereby revoke all other Wills by me made and declare this to be my Last, and thereof I appoint my said wife, Philip Schuyler and Nicholas Bayard Jun: my Brothers in Law to be the Executors In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal This Sixteenth Day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Sixty Three Jer'h Van Rensselear SS Signed Sealed and published by Jeremiah Van Rensselaer as his last will and Testament in our presence and subscribed by us as Witnesses thereto in his presence the words (being assured) first interlined Hester Van Cortlandt James Van Rensselaer Wm. Smith Jun City Of New York SS Be it Remembered that on the twenty fifth day of Janu ary one thousand Seven hundred and sixty five personally came and appeared before me Edward Smith thereunto Duly Author zed Hester Van Cortlandt the wife of J Van Cortlandt of the city of New York E and William Smith Jun of the said Esq'r and being duly Sworn on their Severally Declared that they and each o them did see Jeremiah Van Renssela sign and Seal the preceeding Instrume purporting to be will of said Jeremi Van Rensselaer bearing date the six teenth Day of September 1763 and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and Testament that at the time thereof he the said Jeremiah Van Rensselaer was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of them the Deponents that the names of them the Deponents subscribed to the said will _?_ of their respective proper hand writing which they Severally subscribed as witnesses to the said will in the presence of the testator and that they the Deponents also saw James Van Rensselaer the other witness to the said will, also subscribe his name as a witness thereto in the Testators presence Ed'd Smith The preceding are two copies of the Will of Jeremiah Van Rensselaer Deceased -- and of the Certificate of the proof thereof Examined by Additional Comments: Jeremiah Van Rensselaer, s/o John Van Rensselaer and Angelica Livingston, was bpt Albany Aug. 27, 1738; married Judith Bayard July 3, 1760 New York City. Judith d/o Nicholas Bayard & Elizabeth Rynders, bpt NY February 29, 1740. Jeremiah & Judith bpt a son, Johannes in Albany on Dec. 12, 1762. Jeremiah's sister, Catharine married Philip John Schuyler. He had a brother James Van Rensselaer. Judith's sister, Hester married John Van Cortlandt. Her brother was Nicholas Bayard, Jun. See Will of John Van Rensselaer, father of Jeremiah. His primary heir is his grandson John, "son of my deceased son Jeremiah" Will made May 25, 1782; Codicil made July 29, 1782.
