BATES - In Cassville, NY, Dec. 26, 1897, Josephus Bates, aged 86 yrs 11 mos 18 
dys

Cassville - Josephus Bates, one of the old residents of the town of Paris, died 
at his home in this village on Sunday morning, aged 87 years. The funeral will 
be held from his late residence on Wednesday at 2 pm. Mr. Bates leaves a wife 
and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Wheeler of Waterville.
