Rome Sentinel December 28, 1897
Utica - Carrie Cobb, who, with Jacob Karl, was overcome by illuminating gas in 
the Hotel Imperial early on Sunday morning, died last night. her home was in 
New Hartford but she had been at work in Utica. She was between 16 and 17. Karl 
was alive at noon but there seemed to be no hope for his recovery.
