Mayhew, which occurred at Los Gatos, Cal., August 15 after an illness of over 18 months, over a year of that time being confined to his bed and suffering a great deal. He was born on the old Mayhew farm in Marcy July 15, 1831, and was married to Susan Clarke, who survives, December 11, 1861. All of their seven children were born in Marcy. Three died in infancy and four, Milton Ray, Clara A., William C. and Welcome L., are living in California. He moved to Elkhorn, Wis. in 1884, and California in 1895. he had been a devoted Christian over 60 years and was a loyal supporter of the denomination of his choice - the Baptist. He was a liberal Democrat for many years, but had been a Republican since McKinley's second term. Mr. Mayhew had many friends in this town and central New York, who will be pained to learn of his death. A devoted father and husband his family is sadly bereaved and has the sympathy of many friends in this vicinity. The family has resided in Los Gatos for nine years but will make its home hereafter in Santa Paula where Mr. Mayhew was buried.
