He had suffered at different times with hemorrhage of the stomach but was apparently in his usual health until about 3 wks ago when he had another attack of the same disease. He failed rapidly and suffered intensely until the end, which came as a great shock to his aged mother. He was born in Ava on Aug. 16, 1862. When 17 yrs old he came here with his father's family where he had since resided with the exception of a few years spent in Denver, Colo. and other western cities. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the aged mother and the following brothers and sisters who survive: John Merklinger, Mrs. Gus Mowers, Mrs. Bertha Wallace of New York Mills, George of Albany, Mrs. Lydia Gleasman of Ava and Bert who is employed at the State Hospital in Utica.
