Fifty-two of their Friends Rejoice With Tham --Presentation of Tea Set and Table Ware. Davis-Upson. At the Congregational parsonage, Camden, N.Y., Nov. 19, 1881, by Rev. E. Curtis, John J. Davis and Dora C. Upson, all of Camden. There is no more popular young couple in the town of Camden than Mr. and Mrs. John J. Davis. Mr. Davis is a farmer with advanced and progressive ideas in the craft of husbandry and Mrs. Davis is a model farmer's wife. Their home has always been a haven of welcome and cheer to their host of friends, and socially they have been royal entertainers. They are prominent and active members of the Grange and no gathering of the order for many years has been complete without them. But to get down to the subject of this matter, on Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Davis rounded out twenty-five years of happy wedded life. With their friends to the number of fifty-two, the occasion was fittingly observed and the silver anniversary made a pleasant memory in the history of their lives. The banquet, prepared under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Reafel, was a sumptuous four-course dinner, and a triumph of good things to satisfy the appetite. Following the supper was a surprise and presentation. There were many pretty gifts in silver from relatives and friends, but the most expensive was the collection from the Grangers, twenty-nine being present. In a neat speech rehearsing the excellent and amiable qualities and the loyalty and good work done by Mr. and Mrs. Davis as members of the order, he presented them an elegant six-piece silver tea set, one-half dozen sterling silver tea spoons, one-half dozen dessert spoons and a silver bread tray. The display of silver was beautiful. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were happily surprised and pleased and he responded as best he could considering the suddeness of the attack, as the remembrance far exceeded their expectations. The events of the evening closed with the following interesting program: Vocal selection - "Holy Angels in their Flight" Mr. and Mrs. Park and Miss Park Reading - "When John Left the Farm" Miss Newland Duet - "Shells of the Ocean" Mrs. Curtiss and Miss Park Paper - Mrs. C.F. Ward Duet - "Our Mission" Mr. and Mrs. Ball Reading - "The Hens Keep Laying Right along" Mrs. Wakfield Duet - "The Whip-poor-Will Song" Mrs. Park and Miss Park Duet - "We Would Not Talk of Our Neighbors" Miss Park and Miss Davis While all the numbers were good, the original paper by Mrs. C.F. Ward was an exceptionally fine effort, and was a prophesy of the past, present and future of the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Davis. It began in childhood - the friendship of school days ripened into stronger affection until the climax was reached by the pledge of twenty-five years ago, when their bark set sail on the sea of matrimony. Like all voyages theirs had not all been fair weather but enough of the clouds and storms make them better appreciate the journey. They come to their silver anniversary joyful and prosperous, bound together with the chain of love, as fond and true as in the beginning. There is love, hope and happiness 'neath the roof of their pleasant farm fireside, and their friends now take a peep ahead another quarter of a century, when they have wearied of the toils of the husbandman - have earned the reward of their labors and retired to village life. May many of the guests of their silver wedding help celebrate the golden anniversary.
