Farquharson Oneida County Will Book Page 208 In the name of God Amen. I, John L. Farquharson, of Rome, N.Y. being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament. That is to say, after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath: 1st To my son James H. Farquharson, my double barreled shotgun and ballard rifle, and the apparatus connected therewith: all my fishing tackle and apparatus; my gold watch and chain; silver watch and German silver tureen; my double sleigh, lumber wagon, single harnesses, neck yoke & whiffle toss; my black rocking chair, sofa, bed and bedding connected therewith and 1 steward (sp?) parlor stove, my 12 foot log chain and 2 Guernsey (sp?) horse blankets: The crayon portrait of my father and of my brother, Highwell Farquharson, and $500, in money to be paid to him by my executors, when he shall arrive at the age of 25 years, or as much sooner as my said executive may choose and deem advisable. 2nd To my daughter Ida E. Farquharson, all the household furniture, ornaments, beds, bedding and pictures, (except the crayon portraits of my father and brother, Highwell) contained in the brick house No. 204 Spring Street, Rome, N.Y. and $500 in money to be paid to her when she arrives at the age of 25 years, or as much sooner, as my said executor may choose and deem advisable. 3rd All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal or mixed, I give the use of to my wife H. Cornelia Farquharson, during her natural life or as long as she shall remain my widow, and with the right and authorities during her said widowhood in her discretion, to use up the whole or any part of the body of said residue and upon her death or remarriage. I give said residue or whatever of same may there remain, to my said two children James H. and Ida E. Farquharson, share and share alike. Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint my wife H. Cornelia Farquharson to be my Executrix of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made, with full power to sell and convey any or all of my estate real, personal, mixed and gie deeds of conveyance therefor. Farquharson, the testator, proved in the forgoing Will, in the presence of us and each of us, and at the time of making such subscription the above instrument was declared by the said Testator to be his last Will and Testament, and each of us, at the request of said Testator and in his presence, and in the presence of each other, signed our names as witnesses there at the end of his Will. Surrogate's Court, Oneida County, State of New York (page 209) In the Matter of Proving the Last Will and Testament of John L. Farquharson, deceased. Examinating (sic) of the Subscribing Witness sworn and examined in the Surrogate's Court of Oneida County, in the above entitled proceeding, State of New York, County of Oneida, Mary Fitzgerald, being duly sworn as a witness in the above entitled proceeding, and examined on behalf of the petitioner propounding for probate said Last Will and Testament, says: I reside in the City of Rome, in the County of Oneida and State of New York. I was acquainted with John L. Farquharson, late of the City of Rome, in said county of Oneida, now deceased, and had known him for 15 years, prior to his death. I am one of subscribing witnesses to the instrument now shown and exhibited to me, bearing date the 26 day of December, 1889 and now offered and propounded for probate as and for the Last Will and Testament of the above named decedent. The subscription of the name of said decedent at the end of said instrument was made by the decedent in the presence of myself and John S. Baker, the other subscribing witness thereto. At the time of such subscription the said decedent declared the said instrument so subscribed by him to be his Last Will and Testament, and I thereupon signed my name as a witness at the end of said instrument at the request and in the presence of said decedent. I also saw said John S. Baker, the other subscribing witness, sign his name as a witness at the end of said instrument, and know that he did so at the request of said decedent in his presence. The said decedent at the time of so executing said instrument was a citizen of the United States, and upwards of the age of twenty-one years, and of sound mind, memory and understanding, and was not under any restraint to the best of my knowledge and belief, and in my opinion was competent to devise real estate. I have examined said instrument, and it now appears in all respects as when so executed, without any alteration. Subscribed and sworn to before me this 31 day of May 1890, Mary Fitzgerald. Herbert C.
