Pension Application Service, Conn. COLE, Jabez Number, S15,053, carded

State of New York Onondaga County On this 26th day of February 1834 personally 
appeared Jabes COLE a Resident of the town and County of Onondaga, in open Court 
before the judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County, and State 
of New York, aged 74 years last part, who being first duly sworn, according to 
law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the 
benefit of the provision made by the act of congress passed June 7th 1832. That 
he enlisted in the army of the United States in the year seventeen hundred and 
Eighty-two as a private soldier for the term of one year, he thinks, and served 
under one Captain Hopkins, whose christian name he cannot recollect, into a 
regiment commanded by one Webb, whose christian name this deponent cannot 
recollect, but thinks it begins with an "S", of the Continental line, under the 
following named officers: that he enlisted in the spring of the year in the Town 
of Woodstock in the State of Connecticut. That he cannot recollect the names of 
the officers in the company in which he served except the Captain, he recollects 
of frequently seeing General WASHINGTON at Westpoint, recollects of seeing 
General HUNTINGTON at Ver Planks Point. Applicant thinks that he served a part 
of time under one Ebenezer HUNTINGTON but he is not sure whether he was a 
colonel or not at the time. That he passed muster at Wintham, thinks marched 
from there to the Highlands on the Hudson River in New York, from there to Ver 
Planks Point, then to West Point, and was discharged at the end of this term by 
General KNOX, thinks he had a written discharge but cannot say what has become 
of it. Applicant states above that he enlisted in the spring of 1782. But on 
reflection he is not sure but it was in the spring of 1781 that he may have been 
discharged in '82. That his memory is much impaired from old age. That he knows 
of no living witness by whom he can prove any of his ___ services. That he 
merely relinquishes every claim whatever to a Pension or annuity except the 
present and declares that his name is not on the Pension roll of the agency in 
any state.

1. That he was born in Swansey in Bristol County Massachusetts in the year 1760.

2. That he has no record of his age.

3. That he was residing in Woodstock in Winham County, State of Connecticut when 
he was called into service. That since this revolution he has resided in 
Woodstock aforesaid in Adams, in Albany, in Malborn, Vermont, in Stephentown, 
NY, in Onondaga where he now resides.

4. When applicant entered the service he Enlisted as volunteer.

7 (CROSSED OUT) That he is acquainted with Sterling COLE, who reside in his 
neighborhood who can testify for him, as to his character for truth and verity 
and their belief as to his service as soldier in the Revolution. That there is 
no Clergyman residing in his neighborhood who can testify for him. (END OF CROSS 
OUT) The declarant further states that he has made frequent inquiries to find 
some living witness to
prove his said services by but has been unable to find any.

Common Pleas in and for the County of Onondaga do hereby certify that the 
foregoing contains the original proceedings in the said court in the matter of 
the application of Jabes COLE for a pension. In testimony whereof I have

Indenture Van Corlandt to Jabez Cole Book ____, Page 351 This Indenture Made the 
twelfth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and 
Seventeen Between Philip Van Cortlandt Esquire of the Town of Cortlandt in 
Westchester County of the first part and Jabez Cole of Fabius in Onondaga County 
of the second part Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in 
consideration of the sum of three hundred and five dollars lawful money of the 
United States of America to him in hands paid by the said party of the second 
part at and before the unsealing and delivery of these presents the receipt 
whereof is hereby acnkowledged Hath granted bargained and sold remised released 
aliened and confirmed and by these presents Doth grant bargain and sell remise 
release alien and confirm unto the said party of the second part for his actual 
possession now being, and to his heirs and assigns forever. All that subdivided 
Lot Number nine lying and being in Lot Number Seven in the town of Fabius 
aforesaid the said subdivided Lot containing forty eight acres and one half acre 
and Surveyed by Henry Stewart the second day of July one thousand Eight hundred 
and five and bounded South by subdivided Lot Number eleven heretofore sold and 
conveyed by said party of the first part to the said party of the second part 
and north by subdivided lot Number Seven of Stephen Trife and East by Lot Number 
ten of Gilbert Benedict and Walter Benedict together with all and singular the 
hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining 
and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and 
profits thereof, and also all the estate right title interest property claim or 
demands whatsoever of the said part of the first part either in law or equity of 
in and to the above described premises with the said hereditaments and 
appurtenances. To Have and To Hold the said premises above particularly 
mentioned and described to the said party of the second part his heirs and 
assigns to the sole and only proper use bought and b____ of the said party of 
the second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the said party of the first 
part for himself his heirs, executors and administrators doth covenant grant 
promise and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and 
assigns the above bargained premises in the quiet and peaceable possession of 
the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against the said party 
of the first part his heirs and assigns and against all and every person or 
persons whatsoever lawfully or equitably claiming or to claim the whole or any 
part hereof wiill forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the said party 
of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first

for the uses & purposes therein mentioned. I allow the same to be recovered.
