About our Jennie: Jennie Rausch was a gracious and cheerful woman of remarkable courage and tenacity who always looked forward to the coming events of her life and the world around her, even as she entered her twilight years. On those occasions when she reflected on her life she would tell you that her most important role and greatest accomplishment was that of mother. She raised five children and imparted to them standards and values that would lead to their success in adult life. She held a special place in her heart for a refuge in the deep woods of the Adirondacks, Camp Bona Fida, built by Rev. DiStefano in the 1920's as a haven for Jennie, her brothers and sisters, and parishioners from his Syracuse congregation. It remains today a place of rest and recreation for her family. Also, she and Otto shared Windswept, their summer home on Lake Ontario where she never tired of its cooling breezes and beautiful sunsets. She saw the beauty and art in everything around her, from photography, sketching and painting, to the cardinals and chickadees feeding at her kitchen window. Jennie cherished her piano and her ability to make lovely music for family and friends. She was delighted when she was named Cook of the Week and could share recipes from her Italian and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage with readers of the Syracuse newspapers. For years Jennie was active in various community services including the Pitcher Hill Mother's Club and the American Cancer Society.
