(Davies) Besaw, 55, of Campbell Rd. Mattydale passed away peacefully Sunday in the company of her family and friends at St. Joseph's Hospital after a five year battle with cancer. She was a life resident of Mattydale and graduated in 1966 from North Syracuse High School. Judy was employed as an insurance underwriter for the past 18 years for the Peerless Insurance Co in Syracuse. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Davies. Barbara was an avid bowler and golfer and was cook of the week for the Post-Standard. Born in New York City, she was a 1947 graduate of Skaneateles High School and in 1949 received a degree in music from Cazenovia College. She had worked many years atthe children's summer program at Austin Park and along with her husband, operated T & T Concessions at Allyn Arena. A sailing enthusiast she won the 1947 and 1949 Comet Sailboat Regatta on Skaneateles Lake. She was a member of the Robert J. Hydon American Legion Post #239 Auxiliary, the Skaneateles Historical Society and did volunteer work at the Creamery and for Meals on Wheels. He was born in Syracuse and had retired from Verizon in Cortland as a splicer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are his daughters, Cathleen and Jillian Conway, both of Liverpool and Allison and Audra Conway, both of Syracuse; brother, Robert of Oldsmar, FL; grandson, Jacob Spicer; his companion, Cindy Bird of DeRuyter. Mr. Conway had donated his body to medical science at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Cronk, Hilda Barton August 28, 2004 Hilda Barton Cronk, 88, died Saturday, August 28, 2004, at St. Luke's Health Services, Inc. in Oswego, NY. She was born February 21, 1916, Sodus, NY, to the late Henry Barton and Sarah Coe. At age 4, her family moved back to the family farm in Mexico, NY. She attended grade school at the Wildwood School and Mexico Academy, graduating in 1933. July 1, 1933, she was married to Oscar Lewis Cronk of New Haven, NY. He died in 1993. They lived in Scriba for 35 years before moving to Sandy Creek, NY. Hilda Cronk was a charter member of the Auxiliary of the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of the Rhadamant Chapter of DAR, Pulaski Baptist Church. She was a former member of the New Haven Congregational Church, Scriba Baptist Church and the Home Bureau. She was a LPN at Oswego Hospital for 12 years. She is survived by three daughters: Marlene (Charles) White, Victor, NY and Leesburg, FL; Sarah (Jack) Davis, Venice, FL and Booth Bay Harbor, ME; Jean Burrows, Newton Falls, NY; and one son: Oscar (Carol) Cronk, Bunbury, Western Australia, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Nash, John Francis August 29, 2004 John Francis Nash, 94, of Boca Raton, FL, died August 29, 2004. John was born on September 18, 1909 in Syracuse, NY to Roger and Mary Nash. In 2002, John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ethel Howey Nash. He is survived by his daughter, Jan Perry of Boca Raton. In 1956, he received a degree in Commercial Science (hon.) from Duquesne University. John began his long and successful career in the railroad industry in 1925 with the New York Central Railroad as a freight clerk in Syracuse with subsequent positions in Buffalo and Albany, NY. In 1949, John moved to the Boston & Albany Railroad in Boston, MA, after which he became the President of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad in Pittsburgh, PA in 1952. Next, John moved to the New York City Railroad where he worked as Vice President of Operations and as Senior VP of the New York Central System in 1963. Lastly, John moved to the Lehigh Valley Railroad in Bethlehem, PA in 1965 to work as President. He remained there as the court appointed Trustee after the bankruptcy of the PennCentral Railroad, retiring in 1975. John also served on many corporate boards of directors during his career, as well as numerous civic and charitable organizations. Upon his relocation to Boca Raton, FL he assisted the Boca Raton Historical Society with their restoration of the railroad station. He was very instrumental in obtaining the railroad cars, which are on display there. Friends may call on Thursday, September 2, 2004 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Babione Funeral Home (East Chapel). Runge, Mary May "Betty" August 29, 2004 Mary "Betty" May Runge, 74, formerly of 119 Hoover Dr. and Tanner Rd., passed away Sunday. Born in Syracuse, she resided in South Onondaga prior to moving to Syracuse five years ago. She is the widow of William Runge, who died in 1996. Mary re-tired as a billing clerk from Community General Hospital. She was a member of South Onondaga County and State Granges. Surviving are her son John W. Runge of South Onondaga; four daughters: Margaret Ann Kelly of Coram, Long Island; Patricia A. Twentyman and Mary A. Podsiedlik, both of Tully; and Pamela J. Patterson of Nedrow; two half brothers, William and James May, both of Elbridge; a sister, Alma Joy Higgins Olney of Onondaga Hill; and her companion, Robert Coffey, Sr.; and 12 grandchildren. Services: Thursday at 1 p.m. at Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Turnpike. Interment: South Onondaga Cemetery. August 28, 2004 Maureen M. Sager, 68, died August 28, 2004, at Alterra Wynwood in Manlius. She was the widow of Robert D. Sager, who died in 1989. She was predeceased by her son Steven G. Sager, who died in 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Metz of Denver, CO, and Julia Ross of Burlington, MA; one son, Curt Sager of Manlius; seven grandchildren: Katie, Kevin and Tommy Sager, Patrick and Christopher Metz, and Alec and Liam Ross; and her sister, Jean Leonard of Henderson, NY. August 30, 2004 Mr. Charles J. Scala, age 88, of Utica, N.Y., passed away on Monday, August 30, 2004, in St. Lukes Hospital. Surviving are his wife Marie; two sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and Barbara Scala of Baldwinsville and Brian and Sharon Scala of Marcy, N.Y.; one brother, Ralph Scala; and one sister, Elizabeth Krisko; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
