Carroll, 54, of Syracuse, entered into rest Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a self-employed painting contractor. Thomas served his country in the 122nd Infantry Division of the Army Reserves. He enjoyed spending time in the 1000 Islands and boating on the St. Lawrence River. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Carroll in 1998. November 30, 2004 Sally L. Deaton, age 72, of Route 11 South, Pulaski, died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Pennsylvania on June 1, 1932, the daughter of Dr. Clark and Jeanette Brattager Laus. She graduated from Nottingham High School in 1950 and New Paultz College in 1954. She taught at Roxboro and Bessie Riordan Elementary schools in N. Syracuse for 25 years, retiring in 1998. She moved to Pulaski in 1976 and married Brantley Deaton on August 19, 1976. She and her husband owned and operated Deaton's Home Center for many years. She was a member of the Pulaski Wesleyan Church, was program director for Vacation Bible School, also taught Sunday School and was a member of the Worship Team. She was a member of the Salmon River Fine Arts Center, and a mentor at Pulaski Elementary School. Gould, Gerald E. November 30, 2004 Gerald E. Gould, 84, of Sunnyside Nursing Home, East Syracuse, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Syracuse, from complications of diabetes. One of five children of Lynn and Nina Gould, he spent the first half of his life in and around Endicott and Vestal, NY. He served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bairoko in World War II and worked for Endicott Johnson as an elevator mechanic and electrician after the war. He moved his family to the Syracuse area in the 1960's and retired from Steps Plus, where he was sales manager, in 1982. Mr. Gould was a life member of the Simon Parise Post 9596 of the VFW in East Syracuse, serving as Quartermaster for several years. He had also been active in the American Legion. His wife Ruth predeceased him in 1972, and a second marriage ended in divorce. A child, Barbara, died in 1982 of cancer. Survivors: a son, Gerald L. December 1, 2004 Rose Irene Johnson, 89, of Syracuse, beloved mother to Sonja Kuhns, returned to God and her family that predeceased her on Wednesday. Born September 12, 1915 in Oslo, Norway, she emigrated with her family to America at age 8. She wasa lifelong resident of Syracuse who summered in Alexandria Bay. Later, she was a snowbird in Clearwater, FL until her husband's death in 1981. Since that time she had resided with her daughter. Rose worked for Carrier Corp. and later started her own catering company, Rose Johnson Catering. She became known for her distinctive style and panache for elegance. He was employed for 40years as a metallurgist at Crucible Steel. He was a member of the LaFayette Optimists, the Fayetteville Masons, the Syracuse Gem and Mineral Club, and the First Universalist-Unitarian Society. He worked as a volunteer at University Hospital and also at the Paleontological Research Institute in Ithaca and the MOST. He was also a Boy Scout leader for several years with Troops 27 and 100. He enjoyed playing golf with his sons, and spending time with his grandchildren. Wilks, 64, of Fayetteville, passed away at her home. A native of Brooklyn, she graduated from Rasmus High School. She worked at Le Moyne College in the book store over 33 years. Survivors: two sons, Neil and his wife Donna Wilks, and Ira Wilks, both of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Natalie and Samuel Wilks; and a brother, Shep Kettler.
