December 3, 2004 Doris T. Blais, age 89 formerly of Baldwinsville, passed away Friday At Sunnyside Nursing Home. Born In Restigough Province of Quebec she was a resident of Baldwinsville since 1978. Doris retired in 1977 from the Addis Co, and was previouslyemployed 14 years by the Hotel Syracuse. Doris was a communicant of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Liverpool and very active in all church activities. She was predeceased by her two year old daughter, Claire in 1942 and her husband, Romeo L. Blais in 1977. Survived by a son, Roger J. Blais of Bridgeport, NY; two daughters, Mona M. Moore of Brownsville, TX, Annette Blais of Baldwinsville, NY; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Bovee III, Philip November 24, 2004 Philip Bovee III went peacefully to our Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, after a courageous and exhausting battle with cancer. Phil died at home surrounded by love. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, December6, 2004, at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. Officiating will be The Very Reverend M. L. Agnew, Jr., Dean of St. Mark's. An interment will follow in the summer of 2005 at the family plot, Mexico Village Cemetery, Mexico, New York. Phil was born on June 2, 1954, in Syracuse, New York. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Church of Syracuse, NY. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Santo Bovee II and Mrs. Linda Curro Albino; his sisters, Donna Marie Bovee and Melissa Flora. Survivors include his sister, Cynthia Ann Bos and husband Neil of Shreveport, LA; his sons, Brent Cory Bovee of Syracuse, NY, Philip Santo Bovee IV of Schenectady, NY; their mother, Carla Bovee Sgroi of Syracuse, NY; three nephews and three nieces. He will be missed by his many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, family and friends throughout the country. Phil was a skilled carpenter and talented craftsman. He left examples of his meticulous designs in the various places he resided, which included upstate New York, Los Angeles and Shreveport. He will be remembered especially for his wonderful sense of humor, his encyclopedic knowledge of history and world news, his love of horses, cats, gardening, reading and his incredible desire to live life to the fullest with his family and friends even in his final days. Boycheck, Catherine December 2, 2004 Catherine Barrett Boycheck, 70, of Syracuse, died on Thursday at Crouse Hospital. She had retired after 30 years of service from the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse. She was an Air Force veteran with the 174th, was activated during the Berlin Wall Crisis, and was a member of the 174th Alumni Group. She was a life member of the American Legion Post 1276 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was the Boys State Chairperson and advisor to the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1276. She was a communicant of St. Daniel's Church and a member of the Wisdom People and the Mary Martha Society. She was predeceased by her husband Robert who died in 1981. Ferris, John Peter December 2, 2004 John Peter Ferris, 85, of Wendover Rd., Bouckville, died Thursday, December 2, 2004, at University Hospital, Syracuse. He was born in Utica September 28, 1919, a son of Peter S. and Helen Dickson Ferris. He received his education at Ros-coe Conklin School, UFA and was a graduate of Proctor High School. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran serving at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze and Silver Star. He retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Captain in 1952. In St. Louis Gonzaga Church, Utica, September 12, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Hazel Grimes. The couple have resided in Utica, Clark Mills, Camillus, and were currently residing at their retirement home at Leland Pond in Bouckville. For over 18 years he was executive vice president of Oberdorfer Foundries in Syracuse. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Hamilton, and member of the VFW Post # 230 in Sherrill, the Rotary Club in Oriskany, and the Oswego and Syracuse Chambers of Commerce. Mr. Ferris was a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus of the Utica Lodge #189 and served as master of the Color Guard. Other memberships include 25 years service with Christ the King Retreat House. December 1, 2004 Rose Irene Johnson, 89, of Syracuse, beloved mother to Sonja Kuhns, returned to God and her family that predeceased her on Wednesday. Born September 12, 1915 in Oslo, Norway, she emigrated with her family to America at age 8. She wasa lifelong resident of Syracuse who summered in Alexandria Bay. Later, she was a snowbird in Clearwater, FL until her husband's death in 1981. Since that time she had resided with her daughter. Rose worked for Carrier Corp. and later started her own catering company, Rose Johnson Catering. She became known for her distinctive style and panache for elegance. Rose was predeceased by her husband, John Johnson; her parents, Sigard and Thora Jensen Abramson; her stepfather, Anker Jensen; brothers, Frank and William Abramson; and grandson, John Kuhns. For several years she worked as secretary to the principal, Paul V. Moore. He was a member of the VFW in Baldwinsville. He was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and Bingo. Alice was born December 23, 1932 in Sherburne, NY, the daughter of the late William H. and Grace Byrnes Riley. She graduated from SherburneCentral School, and earned a diploma in nursing from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Utica, NY. She later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Syracuse University College of Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Syracuse University School of Education. During her nursing career, Alice was employed at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, NY, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, Syracuse University Hospital of the the Good Shepherd and University Hospital of the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Starting as a nurse in 1953, she held positions as a head nurse, nursing supervisor, associate director of nursing, and in 1990, retired from University Hospital as the Director of Nursing. Alice is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh T. and Faye Riley of Naples, FL; a sister and brother-in-law, Josephine R. and Harold Dromgoole of Rome, NY; 10 nieces and nephews; 15 grandnieces and nephews; several cousins and her companion of many years, Ralph Vahue. She was predeceased by a sister, Catherine R. Tracy; and a niece, Patricia Parker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, December 6, at St. Malachy's Church, East State St., Sherburne, NY, followed by burial in St. Malachy's Cemetery. Catto Steele, 91, of 108 Grove Ave., Auburn, died Thursday, December 2, 2004. Survived by her daughter, Mary Farrell and her husband, John of Owasco; her sister, Elizabeth Signore and her husband, Lucian of Batavia; nieces and nephews. Published in the Syracuse Post Standard on 12/4/2004. Wicks, Frank R. December 2, 2004 Frank R. Wicks, 90, of Marcellus, died Thursday evening at Community General Hospital. Born in Syracuse February 13, 1914, he was adopted at an early age by Eugene and Nellie Wicks and moved to their Marcellus farm. Later, Frank and hiswife purchased the farm that was to be home for the remainder of their lives. Frank operated the family registered holstein dairy farm known as "Wixvale Farm" until retiring at the age of 74. He was a member of the Excelsior Grange #456 for 60 years, Onondaga Pomonia Grange, New York State Grange, and the National Grange. He was a member at Navarino United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Onondaga County Holstein Club, Holstein-Friesian Association of America and the Farm Bureau. On April 11, 1942, Frank married the former Ruth L. Ramsden. Ruth was not only a devoted and loving wife for 58 years, but became his selfless and dedicated healthcare giver for eight years prior to her death in 2000. Survivors: sons, Frank R. Jr. (Margaret) of Syracuse, Gerald R. (Bonnie) of Pasadena, MD, Martin E. of Marcellus, and David A. of Marietta; and a grandson, Jeremy C. of Pasadena, MD Services: 11 a.m. Monday at the Norris Funeral Home.
