He worked 14 years for Central Service in Oneida. He and his wife, Jennie, owned and operated Ed'sGarage in Munnsville. They ran it as a repair shop from 1947-1966 and as a Ford dealership from 1955 to 1966. He also worked as a mechanic for Leaseway Transportation in Yorkville, retiring in 1974. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jennie A. Durfee, who died in 2003; and a daughter, Bonnie Martin. Survivors: two sons and daughters-in-law, Gervase T. "Ernie" Beer Jr., of 63 Walnut St., Auburn, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 21, 2004. Born in Auburn, he was the son of Jane Meldrum Beer of Auburn and John W. Beer Sr. of Ballston Spa, NY, and was a 1984 graduate of Auburn HighSchool. Ernie was employed by Auburn Armature Inc. for 20 years as a machinist. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf and softball. Ernie was a New York Giants fan and will be remembered by his family and many friends as a kind, gentle and loyal person. Surviving besides his parents are one sister, Margaret M. Beer; his aunt and uncle, Mary and David Kromer; first cousins, Micha Sigona and Kyle Kromer, all of Auburn; and several other close cousins, and many close friends. Sister was born in Buffalo, New York to the late John Joseph Dillon and Elizabeth Catherine Ker-ner Dillon. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on August 31, 1949 and professed Final Vows on August 13, 1955. Sister was a Registered Nurse when she entered the convent and ministered at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, NY, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica, NY. She also served as a parish minister in several parishes in the Syracuse Diocese. Sister is survived by several nieces and nephews. Born on January 18, 1917, in Macomb, NY, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Maude Harvey Downing. Until her retirement in 1994, she was a real estate owner/manager in Syracuse, NY. She was an avid golfer and tennis player. She was the last of her generation and in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clinton and Harvey Downing; her sister, Betty Alverson; and a son, William D. Scerbo. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Francis A. Scerbo, and her second husband, David Engelstein. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, F. Pelligrini, James December 22, 2004 James Pelligrini, 83, died Wednesday. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from Central High School in 1940. He was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving as Tech Sergeant in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. James worked for O.M. Edwards for 40 years, retiring as vice president of manufacturing in 1982. He was a former member of Bellevue Country Club and Tuscarora Golf Club. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Pallotta Pelligrini; a son, David Joseph and daughter-in-law, Patricia of Onondaga Hill; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth, James David and John Paul; a sister, Connie Nocera of North Syracuse; many nieces and nephews. Born in McKeesport, PA, Mr. Popek had lived in New Woodstock for the past 55 years. Mr. Popek was a lifelong farmer and co-owner of CarlstanFarms in New Woodstock. He loved hunting, water sports, traveling, playing cards, horseshoes, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling and being with his family. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren. He and his wife wintered in Florida. Born in Locke, she was a graduate of Groton High School. Barbara lived in Warners until moving to Camillus in1950. She was a former court clerk for the Town of Camillus for 27 years. A lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #8664, she was also a member of the Camillus Republican Club and Onondaga County Court Clerks Association. Her husband, Anthony J. Rinaldo, died in 1969. Salomon, Ilse Voehl Ruppel December 20, 2004 Ilse Voehl Ruppel Salomon died peacefully on Monday, December 20, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Ilse moved to Syracuse in 1934, graduated from Nottingham High School and Syracuse University, andearned master's degrees from Syracuse and Columbia Universities. She married Dr. Kenneth Ruppel in 1950, and they had four children. Ilse lived the true meaning of "Tikun Olam", making your community a better place. She loved teaching, art, literature, music, history, travel, and most of all, people. She was a devoted and loyal mother, grandmother and friend. She had an unquenchable curiosity and unparalleled commitment to learning. Above all she was courageous. Ilse was predeceased by her first husband Dr. Kenneth Ruppel in 1976, and her second husband Allen Salomon in 1996. She leaves her sons David and Richard (Kathleen) Ruppel, her daughters Carol (Brien) Williams and Ellen (Martin) Shell, and five grandchildren. Born in Syracuse, she resided in Clay until July, when she moved to Bernhards Bay. Julia was an Army nurse during WW II. She was a Special Education teacher at Percy Hughes School in Syracuse, retiring in 1983. In early 2004, Julia published "Memoirs of an Old Lady", a biography about her life and extensive travels. She was a field representative with the Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA), and was the second woman in New York State to become a VFW Post Commander. She is survived by her daughter, Cheri "Monk" Wheeler (David), of Bernhards Bay; a brother, Frank Polchlopek of Baldwinsville; two granddaughters, Karen Witherbee of Cropseyville, NY, and Pamela Olshanski of Eugene, OR; two grandsons, Shawn Collins of Brooklet, GA, and Steven Collins of Clarksville, TN; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
