A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Helen was a graduate of Central High School. She retired from 25years of service with General Electric Company in 1981. Helen was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother and an extraordinary homemaker. She devoted her life to the happiness and welfare of her family, from whom she derived her greatest joy. A native and life resident of North Syracuse, she was a member of Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church since 1923. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1297 and past president of the Onondaga Co. American Legion Auxiliary. She was the oldest living member and a life member of Centerville Chapter No. 185 Order of the Eastern Star, North Syracuse. Mrs. Harvey was predeceased by her husband Roy on April 13, 1939, and by her children, George on April 25, 1992, and Shirley J. Roy on January 24, 2004. Lorenz, Cornelia Anne December 26, 2004 Cornelia Anne Lorenz, 87, died on Sunday, December 26, 2004, at the Morris Center of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida after a short stay at Memorial Hospital of Jacksonville, FL. She was born in New York City on October 18, 1917, to John Eugene Gaydos and Helen Vovcsko Gaydos, both immigrants from Hungary. Upon her graduation from St. John's Catholic School of Nursing in Long Island City in 1938, she became a Registered Nurse who worked at Flower Fifth Avenue, Bellevue, and Mount Sinai Hospitals in New York City in the 1940's. She married Clermont Herbert Lorenz in 1943, and they lived in London, England in the 1960's, where he headed the European Engineering Division of Black-Clawson, an international paper and pulp company. Mrs. Lorenz was an active member of the American Women's Club in London. While on a business trip to Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation in 1972, they fell in love with Fernandina Beach, and purchased the Seaside Motel which they owned until 1979. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida in 1984. Her hobbies included world travel, oil painting, and rose gardening. Mrs. Lorenz was preceded in death by her husband, and her daughter, Cornelia Gene, and her beloved sisters, Margaret Zachary, Madeline O'Rourke, and Ann Fahey. Survivors: include her daughter, Nancy of St. Simons Island, GA; and her sons, George of Fernandina Beach, and William, who resides in Suffolk, Connecticut, with his wife, Carla, and their sons, Preston and Cooper. Born in Syracuse, she was a life-resident of the Syracuse area. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Genevieve Burns. She graduated from Nottingham HighSchool in 1958. Eileen married Dennis Paul Lougee on February 6, 1965 and they were together for 37 years, until his death on March 18, 2002. She worked at St. Camillus' Occupational Therapy Department for 17 years. Stanton and Carrie B. Sevy Stanton. A graduate of the Ithaca School of Business, Marian was a dedicated secretary at Cornell for many years. She also volunteered for the Service League Shop and for Meals-on-Wheels in Ithaca. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ithaca, which she and her husband joined in 1935. After moving to Syracuse, Marian attended University United Methodist Church and was a member of the Gertrude Brown Guild. Marian was predeceased by her brother, Walter Stanton, and in 2002, by her husband of 70 years, John A. Mack. Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Rev. Harold W.) Rice Jr., 19, of Nedrow, passed away Saturday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Born in Syracuse, he attended Onondaga Junior and Senior High School, SUNY Morrisville College and the Second Olivet Mission-ary Baptist Church. As a youth he played for the Valley Stallions Pop Warner Football League. While he was in high school, he was a member of the track and basketball teams. Johnny lived a full and happy life. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, TyJohn Rice of Syracuse; his beloved parents, Monica M. Brown of Nedrow, Johnny L. Rice Sr. of Syracuse; half sister and brothers, Alexsis Rice, Amarish Rice, both of Syracuse, and Pierre Reddick of Connecticut; paternal grandmother, Annie Rice of Syracuse; maternal grandparents, Wyamon and Marion (DeDe) Brown of Syracuse; three favorite aunts, Susan Brown of CA, Jacqueline Saddler of Syracuse, and Gladys Rice of Syracuse; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Born in Manhattan, NY, a lifelong resident of the Bronx, she lived in Florida prior to moving to Fayetteville in 2002. Mrs. Simeone was a member of the Believers Cha-pel, Cicero. She was predeceased by her husband, Ferdinand Simeone, who died in 1994. Surviving are a daughter Loretta A. (David) Hines and a son Joseph P. Simeone, both of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Melissa M. Hines and David V. Hines Jr., both of Fayetteville; a sister, Mary Carnase of Hollywood, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Somerville, Kirstina December 26, 2004 Kirstina Somerville, 94, a resident of Springside at Seneca Hill, Oswego, died December 26, 2004 at the Oswego Hospital. Born in Hagamam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Lars and Mary Johnson. She was a graduate of Amsterdam City Hospital and Syracuse University. She was a school nurse-teacher at Hannibal for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, knitting and oil painting. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John Somerville. Surviving are a daughter, Dena (Neil) Redding of E. Stellato, 81, of East Syracuse, died Saturday at Rosewood Heights. Born in Beaver Falls, PA had resided in East Syracuse 58 years. Retired as a cost Accountant from the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. He was past president of SEIULocal 200. Communicant of St. Matthew's Church in East Syracuse. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WW II serving with the 475th Fighter Group in the Pacific Theater of Operations; he was awarded the Purple Heart. Member of the DAV. Surviving wife of 58 years the former, Libira Ann DiFiore; three sons, Anthony of Yonkers, Michael of Kirkville and Gary of Canastota; two granddaughters, Sabrina and Alyssa Stellato both of Canastota; a sister, Mary of Leroy. He was born in Blossburg, PA, and lived in Fairmount for more than 30 years. Jim was owner of Van Dyke's Dental Lab and Thomas G. Lee Dental Lab. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Frances L. Davies; mother, Cora Van Dyke of Liberty, PA; son, James (Tracey) Van Dyke Jr. of Syracuse; daughter, Lorraine (William) Erlenback of Memphis; sister, Sylvia Watkins of Covington, PA; brother, Larry of Liberty, PA; and granddaughter, Madison. December 25, 2004 Betty M. VanSanford, 81, of East Syracuse, died Saturday due to illness complications. Most of Betty's life was spent as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a diligent homemaker and was best known for her food prepara-tion and culinary skills. Betty was attentive and preoccupied with her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Glenn in 1972. Betty is survived by daughters, Jean (Raymond) Rivers of North Syracuse, Judith (Michael) Hollister of Union Springs; and a son, James (Eileen) VanSanford of Chittenango. Whitehouse, David C. December 25, 2004 David C. Whitehouse, 55, of LeMoyne Ave., Mattydale, died Christmas day at the VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late David and Ella Whitehouse of N. Syracuse. A native of Elmira, David resided in the Mattydale area since 1985. He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He worked for the Penny Curtis Bakery, Syracuse, in the shipping dept. for several years until he became disabled. He is survived by a sister, Rochelle Hancock of Horseheads; a brother, Charles Whitehouse of Liverpool; two very close friends, Gene Rossi of Manlius and Bill Harrington of Mattydale; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
