November 2, 2004 James W. Armstrong, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday due to a sudden illness. Jim was a resident of Syracuse since 1954 after moving here from Pittsburgh, PA. He founded Auto Damage Appraisers Inc. which he ran for over 30 years and was still employed there until his death. He was formerly Claims Manager at General Motors Insurance Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA. He was also a former partner of Wilcox Travel Agency here in Syracuse. He served during World War II in the Field Artillery for 3-1/2 years. He served in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and fought throughout Europe during the war. He was honored with the Bronze Star for Bravery and five Battle Stars including Battle of the Bulge. Jim was very active in the community as a member of the Dewitt Kiwanis Club where he served twice as president. He was a member, Past Master and presently Chaplin of Fayetteville Central City Lodge 305 F&AM. He was a former member of the Syracuse Claim Organization, IADA and American Legion. He was an avid sportsman and had many memories and experiences on the St. Lawrence River where they had raised their family at their summer home on Wellesley Island. Survivors: wife of 56 years, the former Rosemary C. York; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Debra Armstrong, their six sons, Brett, Chad, Jamie and Ross Armstrong and Lt. Mrs. Begel was born in PA, the daughter of the late Victor and the late Mayme Miller LaRose. She married Donald August 16, 1942, while he was on leave from the Army. She joined Frieden's UCC in Syracuse in the 1940's and worked with the Red Cross Blood Program since 1966. She was past PTA president and active in the women's guild at Frieden's, and an avid reader. He was a 1951 graduate of East Syracuse High School and attended C.C.B.I. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired in 1999 after 46 years at Crucible Specialty Metals, where he was a member of the management and recreation clubs. He has served as treasurer for the Village of East Syracuse, and was a past member of the Lions Club where he was a director. He was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 110. Farley, 88, of Bernadine Apts., Syracuse, died Saturday at his home. A native of Mexico, Mr. Farley lived in Mattydale for 20 years before moving to Syracuse in 1999. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII and served with the 8th Div. in the European Theater where he received a Bronze Star. He retired in 1980 after 35 years as a Materials Planner and Buyer for Rockwell International in Syracuse. Gerald played semi-pro baseball in the late 30's for the Schiller Park Dairy. Garafalo, Sam November 2, 2004 Sam Garafalo, age 94, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the Normandy Campaign and Central Europe. Following his discharge in 1945, he moved to Cali-fornia. He was a longtime manager of Sears Stores in Redondo Beach. Sam retired and returned to North Syracuse in 1974. He was active at the Wagon Wheel for many years serving as president. He also belonged to the Solvay Moose Club and the Mattydale V.F.W. Sauter Sr., David C. November 2, 2004 David C. Sauter, Sr., 67, of Baldwinsville, died Tuesday at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse and lived in Baldwinsville 36 years. David received his Masters Degree from Syracuse University and taught in the Liverpool School Districtfor 36 years, retiring in 1998. He taught Project Advance for SU Biology at Liverpool High School and was Summer School Principal for 20 years. David served in the US Navy from 1959-63. Involved with Boy Scouts for 30 years, he was former scout master of Troop 119 and Assistant District Commissioner. Steinbrecher, 42, died Monday at his home in Cleveland, GA. Born in Syracuse, Robby grew up in Liverpool, attended Pulaski Academy High School, and served in the U.S. Navy in the 1970's. He moved to GA in May. He was a truck driver for many years and also worked as a mechanic. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Michelle Marturano, in 2001, and his father John H. Steinbrecher in 1973. November 3, 2004 Rosemond M. Wolff Warguleski, 82, of Mattydale, died Wednesday at James Square Health Centre. She was a native of Tipperary Hill, Syracuse, and lived in Mattydale since 1953. She was a member of St. Margaret's Church and Salina Civic Se-niors, Mattydale. She retired in 1984 as a sales clerk for C.E. Chappell & Sons, Northern Lights, where she had been employed since 1955. Previously she had worked at Kallfelz Bakery for four years and during WW II at Brown-Lipe-Chapin. Mrs. Warguleski was predeceased by her husband, Joseph S. "Shorty" Warguleski, on April 9, 2003. Her parents, Edward A. and Frances I. McCarthy Wolff, and four sisters, Frances, Lucille, Shirley and Rosemary, also predeceased her. Surviving are three children, Robert J. and E. James, both of Mattydale, and Rosemary M. Warguleski of Parish; four siblings, Anne Hickey of Medina, OH, Suzanne Wheeler of North Syracuse, Marilyn DePasquale of Clay and Edward Wolff of Liverpool; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. (Smith) November 2, 2004 Lucy Weiland, 68, passed away November 2 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Syracuse, a lifetime resident of Cicero. Lucy worked for Syracuse China, North Syracuse School district, and retired from GE. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Nettie Smith, who owned Smith's Nursery on Lakeshore Rd., Cicero. Lucy was very artistic she enjoyed sketching people. She loved music, Bingo, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family very much. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles "Chuck"; a daughter, Theresa (Thomas) Walsh of Cicero; two sons, Richard (Tobie) Weiland of Brewerton, Charles (Karen) Weiland of Cicero; two sisters, Madeline Nowack of Constantia, Theresa Wright of Baldwinsville; two brothers, George Smith of Brewerton and Richard Smith of Cicero; grandchildren, Thomas, Cory, Cameron Walsh, Brooke, Derek Weiland and Charles Joseph Weiland; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends. She was predeceased by a sister Violet Brauchle and stepmother Violet Smith.
