"Bud" Anthonson November 3, 2004 Martin E. (Bud) Anthonson, 90, a pioneer in Aviation, formerly of Jordan, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Northwoods of Cortland. Born in Jordan, he was a self-employed aircraft mechanic for many years. He was a member of the QB (Quiet Birdmens). He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel R. who died in 1977 and his second wife, Esther Love who died in 1996. Surviving: three sons, Douglas M. of Cortland, Dale R. of Jordan and Ted E. of Buffalo; two sisters, Elsie Eckert of Baldwinsville and Leah Moore of Weedsport; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Armstrong, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday due to a sudden illness. Jim was a resident of Syracuse since 1954 after moving here from Pittsburgh, PA. He founded Auto Damage Appraisers Inc. which he ran for over 30 years and was still employed there until his death. He was formerly Claims Manager at General Motors Insurance Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA. He was also a former partner of Wilcox Travel Agency here in Syracuse. He served during World War II in the Field Artillery for 3-1/2 years. He served in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and fought throughout Europe during the war. He was honored with the Bronze Star for Bravery and five Battle Stars including Battle of the Bulge. Jim was very active in the community as a member of the Dewitt Kiwanis Club where he served twice as president. He was a member, Past Master and presently Chaplin of Fayetteville Central City Lodge 305 F&AM. He was a former member of the Syracuse Claim Organization, IADA and American Legion. He was an avid sportsman and had many memories and experiences on the St. Lawrence River where they had raised their family at their summer home on Wellesley Island. Alberta retired from Syracuse Uni-versity in 1999. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1981, and son Daniel and grandson David who were victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Standbrook, Ralph W. Standbrook November 3, 2004 Ralph W. Standbrook, 72, of Fair Haven, NY, passed away Wednesday at Auburn Memorial Hospital in Auburn, NY. Born in Rochester, NY and raised in Victory, NY, Ralph graduated from Red Creek High School in 1949 and joined the Army soon af-ter. Upon completion of the Airborne and Glider School, he served in the Korean War and made two combat parachute jumps behind enemy lines. Ralph was direct commissioned as an officer and later served as an advisor in Vietnam. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1972. He was a farmer and businessman in Tennessee for 15 years and returned to NY in 1987. He is a former Mayor of Fair Haven, a Cayuga County Legislator for 10 years, serving as Chairman of the Cayuga County Legislature for eight years. He retired again in 2001. Ralph was very proud of his efforts in the construction of the Owasco Lake Seawall, the purchase of the RG&E property in Sterling, and, especially, the NASA sponsored Regional Application Center at Cayuga Community College. He is the past commander of the American Legion, Post 658, Fair Haven, NY. Survivors: Ralph is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tula; his three children, Fred, Susan and Ralph; six grandchildren, Mandy, J.T., Megan, Berean, Jonathan and Abigail; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Tucker. She was a member of theManlius First Baptist Church, the Women's Fellowship and the American Baptist Women. She was a former secretary, Deaconess, Trustee and Superintendent with the church. She was also a choir member and headed the Youth Fellowship Group at the church. Margaret was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels and F.I.S.H. in Manlius. Survivors: A daughter, Lois Vermilya-Weslowski of NM; a son, David Vermilya of Baldwinsville; two grandchildren, Owen and Alana Weslowski; several nieces and nephews.
