Butler, David A. November 5, 2004 David A. Butler, 73, of 3626 Worthington Place in Cortland, passed away November 5, 2004 after losing a long battle to Lyme Disease and COPD. The son of the late Frank and Thelma (Hazenjager) Butler was born in Auburn, NY, on October 18, 1931. A brother, Frank Eugene Butler, predeceased him in 1998. Butler graduated from Skaneateles High School where he was the president of the Junior Red Cross and the Senior Class President. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force after serving three years during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Babson Brother, Inc., a manufacturer of Surge dairy equipment, as a district sales manager who assisted dealers in sales, service and installation of products throughout the Northeast. He worked for Marine Distributors, where he was instrumental in the sales of Blue Fin, Glastron, Riviera and Starcraft boats as well as Calkins and Hoosier boat trailers. For 16 years, Butler was owner and president of Syracuse Meridian of New York, Inc., and distributing through his company, S.M. Marine Supply in Waterloo, NY, marine products to New York State and New England. Upon retirement, Butler became an avid bridge player in the Cortland area. Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Justine (married in 1974), daughter, Robin Butler of Syracuse and son, Alan Butler (Jane Goldner) of Homer; stepdaughter, Cheryl Bisbee of Cortland and stepson, Richard Bisbee, Jr., of Homer; and sisters-in-law, Gretchen (Richard) Sweeney of Cortland and Jean Jessiman of Little York. Mrs. Hixson, formerly of East Lake Road, Cazenovia and Oneida, NY, was the widow of Dr. Edward G. Hixson, a well known surgeon in Oneida for over 30 years. Mrs. Hixson served on the board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Central New York. She was a former member and president of the Oneida City School Board. She was a member of the U.S. Senior Women's Golf Association, and a lifelong member of the Onondaga Golf and Country Club. She belonged to the Cazenovia Club and the Cazenovia Presbyterian Church, Cazenovia, NY. An avid golfer, Mrs. Hixson was well known in Central New York as a member of the Syracuse Women's District Golf Association. She competed for many years, and found great joy in her four holes-in-one. Among her many achievements, she was the Oneida Golf and Country Club Champion at age 13. In addition to golf, Mrs. Hixson was an accomplished skier, tennis and bridge player. The former Doris Cumings attended preparatory school at Mary Baldwin, Geneva, Switzerland and graduated Fairfax Hall as Valedictorian of her class. She was awarded the title Miss Fairfax for her academic and athletic achievement. She received her B.A. at Syracuse University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Mrs. Hixson taught at the Grosse Pointe Country Day School, Detroit, MI, during her husband's surgical residency. Mrs. Hixson is survived by her three children, a daughter, Jane H. Fuller (Mrs. Ronald W.) of Cazenovia, NY, and two sons, Dr. Edward G. Hixson of Saranac Lake, NY, and Dr. F. Peter Hixson of Cazenovia, NY. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by them all. She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years. Born in Clay in 1912, her family owned farms along Oswego Road, Liverpool. In 1929 Ann was a member of the first graduating class of Liver-pool High School on 4th Street. She married Floyd E. Linn in 1935, followed by the births of daughter, Deborah Ann and son, John Peter. Her career included several decades employed with the Babson Brothers Company as well as driving for the Air base during World War II, working in the Finance Dept. of Syracuse Trust Bank, served as Tax Collector for the Town of Clay and was founder and CEO of Old National Credit Company. She loved to cook, entertain, play cards, and traveled the world for many years. She also volunteered to deliver Meals-on-Wheels. Her favorite activity was "being the crossroad for all branches" of her large family. She was a longtime member of the Liverpool First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served as director of the Sunday School. She was predeceased by her husband, Judge Floyd E.
