He was born October 19, 1935, in Albany, NY. He was the son of John and Nora Ryan Lanahan. John was employed by the Comptroller of the Currency as a national bank examiner for 20 years. He then served as vice president of Community Bank, retiring in 1997 after 14 years. Following his retirement he served for one year as interim president of Citizens Bank, Malone, NY. John loved his summer home in Lake Clear, NY, and spent many happy years there. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wood carving. He was a member of the Onondaga Wood Carvers Club. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, the former Jean Duffy; three sons: John of Boston, Timothy of Buffalo and Matthew Lanahan of Westvale; his mother, Nora Lanahan of Albany; his brother, William (Kathryn) Lanahan of Glenmont; several nieces, nephews and cousins. October 24, 2004 Edward F. Naramore Jr., 79, died recently in Denver, CO, following complications from surgery. Born in Chicago, IL, he was a graduate of the University of Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator on B-24 Liberators during WW II. He movedhis family to upstate NY in 1966 and spent the next three decades in Camillus and then Liverpool. An insurance broker and CLU, he was employed at Marsh & McLennan for many years. A member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, the University Club and Liverpool First United Methodist Church, he will be remembered for his energetic engagement, his desire to serve and his beautiful singing voice. Northrup, Martha Hancock "Margot" Hancock Northrup November 6, 2004 Martha Hancock Northrup (known as Margot), 84, of 1252 James Street, Syracuse, and Syracuse Road, Cazenovia,died Saturday November 6, at Crouse Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Syracuse, NY, on November 4, 1920, thefourth of six children of Stewart F. and Marion M. Hancock of Syracuse. Margot attended the Goodyear Burlingame School in Syracuse, graduated from the Masters School at Dobbs Ferry, NY, and graduated from Smith College in 1942. She served in the Red Cross as a volunteer, and following that she worked at IBM locally and in New York City. A lifelong Syracusan, her involvement in local organizations and volunteer activities was well known. Her longest association was with Crouse Hospital and prior to that Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. She chaired the Memorial Hospital Board and helped lead the merger with Crouse-Irving. She was the first president of the Crouse Irving Memorial Foundation board and continued to actively serve on the Crouse Foundation board until her death. A section of the Kienzle Maternity Wing at Crouse Hospital was named in her honor. She served as a member of the SUNY Health Science Center Council, was chair of the special county commission on mental health, past president of the Volunteer Center, Inc., past president of the Junior League of Syracuse, a founder of the Corinthian Foundation and the Corinthian Club and past president of the Central New York Community Foundation. She served as vice chair of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees and was the first woman director to serve on the Niagara Mohawk Board of Directors. She also served on the Cambridge Filter Corporation board of directors. She was actively involved in many other organizations, including the United Way of Central New York and its predecessor the Community Chest, the Rosamond Gifford Foundation, the Consortium for Children's Services, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Central New York, the Plaza Extended Care Facility and the Smith College Club. Margot was honored as the 1959 Post Standard Woman of Achievement for volunteer leadership and recognized as the Post Standard's All-Time Woman of Achievement in 1976. She was the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital Tribute Evening honoree in 1980, the Temple Adath Yeshurun Citizen of the Year in 1987 and the Hiawatha Council Distinguished Citizen honoree in 1993. An avid golfer, Margot was an eight-time Club Champion at Onondaga Golf and Country Club, a member of the Cazenovia Golf Club, a member and former president of the U.S. Women's Senior Golf Association and had three holes-in-one to her credit. She was a member of the Century Club of Syracuse and the Cazenovia Club of Cazenovia. Margot is predeceased by her husband David H. Northrup and is survived by two sons, David H. Northrup Jr. and wife Sharon of Fayetteville, and Theodore H. Northrup and wife Mary-Pat of Cazenovia; six grandchildren: Kate, David, Matthew, Christina, Kimberly and Ashley; a brother, Stewart F. Hancock Jr. of Syracuse; and a sister, Constance Getman of Cazenovia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m Saturday, November 13, at DeWitt Community Church in DeWitt. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. Stehle, a 48-year resident of Poughkeepsie and formerly of Wantagh, Long Island, died Friday at Vassar Bros. Medical Center. She was born September 10 at Van Cortland and Park South, Bronx, NY, to James and Helen Brainard Murray. Helen was married on October 26, 1944, to John F. Stehle at the Church of the Visitation, Bronx, NY. He predeceased her on September 8, 1987. Survivors: one son, Owen (Kim) Stehle of Baldwinsville; one daughter, Sharman Stehle of Poughkeepsie; two grandsons, Kenneth and Daniel Stehle; four nieces. Woodford, 73, daughter of the late Patrick J. Murphy and Meta (Walther) Murphy, passed away on Sunday, November 7. We are all blessed to have had such a wonderful lady in our lives. Her main interests in life were her husband andfamily. In earlier years, she was an avid golfer and swimmer and was active in the "Note-a-belles" singing group. She was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and sang in the choir there for many years. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Emerson; three daughters: Christine Crysler of E. Syracuse, Barbara Centner (and son-in-law Ronald Centner Sr.) of Canastota and Colleen Guerin (and son-in-law Edward Guerin) of Marcellus; four sons: Patrick (and daughter-in-law Mary Jo) Woodford of Phoenix, Michael (and daughter-in-law Peggy) Woodford of West Amboy, Robert (and daughter-in-law Jackie) Woodford of Liverpool and Martin (and daughter-in-law Chris) Woodford of Liverpool; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Garvey of DeWitt and Elizabeth (Betty) Hookway of E. Syracuse; one aunt, Kathleen Kanervicko; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Katherine and a grandson Michael, all of whom called her the best wife, mother and grandmother in the world.
