Ardune, Grace M.   
November 10, 2004 Grace M. Ardune, age 82, of Liverpool, died Wednesday at
Crouse Hospital. Born in Utica, Grace retired as executive secretary from
Bristol Laboratories, and was a member of the Liverpool Garden Club, a tax
volunteer with AARP, a volunteer at Crouse Hospital, a member of St. Paul's
Cathedral, and past president of Jewell Cemetery. She was predeceased by her
husband Leland J. and a grandson Leland John Glavin. Surviving are three
daughters, Joanne F. Ardune of Johnson City, NY, Patricia (Michael) Glavin of
Liverpool, and Kathleen (Lawrence) Reschke of Mattydale; a brother, Philip C.
MacArthur of Woodstock, GA; three granddaughters. Funeral Services will be
conducted 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2004, in St. Paul's Cathedral, 310
Montgomery St., Syracuse. Burial will be in Jewell Cemetery. Calling hours are
4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool.

Behn, Sandra   
November 10, 2004 Graveside services for Ms. Sandra Behn, 65, of Asheville,
NC, who passed away Wednesday, will be held Friday 2 p.m. at Temple Israel
Cemetery with Rabbi Richard Chizever officiating. Born in Syracuse, New York,
Ms. Behn was a Department Store Manager at Filenes. She is survived by mother,
Anna Behn of Winter Park; brother, Jerome (Madeline) Behn of Winter Park;
nieces, Judy Suberman of Maitland, Andra Behn of Longwood, Sharon Behn;
nephews, Michael and Philip Behn; seven greatnieces and nephews;
sister-in-law, Anita Behn. She is predeceased by her father, Solomon Behn and

Blumenthal, Ruth   
November 10, 2004 Ruth Blumenthal, 73, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday at
Crouse Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, Ruth had been a resident of Syracuse for
the past 40 years. She was the manager of a retail jewelry store in the
Fayetteville Mall until retir-ing in 1986. She was an outgoing, gracious
person. People loved her, and she loved them. Ruth was a former member of
Temple Society of Concord. Survived by her husband Frank; sons, Bruce and Dr.
David (Dr. Jane Corteville); her daughter Wendy; her sister Dorothy Bogart;
and grandchildren, Jordan, Colin, Lauren and Camron. Services will be at 12:30
p.m. Monday, graveside, in the Temple Society of Concord Section of Woodlawn

Cox, Mary B.   
November 8, 2004 Miss Mary B. Cox, formerly of Presidential Plaza in Syracuse,
died November 8, 2004, at Van Duyn Home and Hospital in her 100th year. Native
of Donegal, Ireland, and Syracuse resident since 1922. Miss Cox was a senior
telephone operatorat the Syracuse State School for 45 years, retiring in 1969.
Communicant of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and former member of
its Altar Rosary Society. Survived by two nephews, Donald F. Cox and Michael
J. Cox, both of Syracuse; one niece, Mary Helen Nahigian of Waltham, MA;
several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Funeral services are Saturday at 8 a.m. at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home
and 8:45 a.m. at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial in
Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral

Downes, Dorothy   
November 11, 2004 Dorothy Downes, 98, of Onondaga Hill, passed away at
Community General Hospital on November 11 after a short illness. A native of
Syracuse and member of a large, longtime Syracuse family, she had resided in
Onondaga Hill for over 50 years where she was a communicant of St. Michael's
Church. Dorothy was a graduate of Syracuse University Hospital of the Good
Shepherd School of Nursing and became a school nurse teacher in the Syracuse
City School District. She served in many of the city schools, including
Nottingham High and Roosevelt Jr. High School during her 40-year career.
Earlier this year she was recognized by Syracuse University on the 75th
anniversary of her graduation. She is survived by her brother and
sister-in-law, John and Virginia Will Downs of Onondaga Hill; and well more
than 100 nieces, nephews and their spouses and 3rd and 4th generation family
members, all of whom took great pleasure in her company and have revered and
admired her for her effervescent spirit, her generosity and her tender concern
for their welfare. Services Saturday 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Onondaga
Hill. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. There will be no calling hours.

Dyer Sr., John L.   
November 9, 2004 John L. Dyer Sr., 69, of LaFayette, died Tuesday. Had been
employed by Roth Steel Corp. for over 30 years. He was the widower of Jean,
who died in 1998, and father to Rick, who died in 1987. Surviving are his son,
John Jr.; three brothers, Robert, William and David; four sisters, Suzanne
Kenyon, Edna Spoor, Louise Beard, and Lois Powell. Services Sunday 2 p.m. at
Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Tpk. Following the service,
friends are invited to join the family at Lenny's Place, 211 Pond St.,
Syracuse.

Fairbanks, Bruce V.   
November 9, 2004 Bruce V. Fairbanks, 67, of Fisher Rd., Skaneateles, died
Tuesday. A native of Syracuse, he was a graduate of Syracuse Central High
School. He was a musician and member of Musicians Union Local of Syracuse, was
a featured jazz trumpeter, and played for some Syracuse Symphony performances
including the Civic Center opening with Ella Fitzgerald. He played locally
with the Soda Ash Six, John Whitney Trio, and the Dixieland Update. He was
also a member of the Skaneateles Recreation Center. Surviving are his wife,
the former Anne Boyd; two sons, Paul (Lisa) of Syracuse and Scott (Berta) of
Florida; a daughter, Krissi Kolbasook of Liverpool; brother, Barry (Carol) of
Syracuse; sister, Sally (Victor) Letendre of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews. Services are private for the family. Contributions
may be made to CNY Fertility Center, 195 Intrepid Ln., Syracuse, or the
Regional Oncology Center, E. Adams St., Syracuse. Arrangements by the Robert

Johnson, Elaine M.   
November 10, 2004 Elaine Marie Johnson, 96, of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday
at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester, NY. She had her Masters Degree in
Library Science and a teaching degree. Elaine taught high school English,
French and was the school librarian at Jamesville High School and Jamesville
Dewitt High School. She was a member of the NYS teachers Association and a
Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Pulaski. She is predeceased by
her husband, John in 2003 and daughter, Linda in 2001. She is survived by her
nieces, Holly Nelson, Cindy McAllister and Chris Kingsley all of Rochester;
brother-in-law, Ray Morris of Rochester and many loving friends. Elaine's
Funeral service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Central Square Saturday

Mapes, John F. "Jack"   
November 9, 2004 John F. "Jack" Mapes, 84, a longtime resident of Pompey
Center, died Tuesday, November 9, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.
Jack was born in Monticello, NY, where he lived until 1960. He was a Captain
in the Army Air Corps and served as a pilot in the Pacific during WW II. Jack
followed his father into dairy farming, both in Monticello and in Pompey
Center. While in Monticello, Jack was an active member of the Volunteer Fire
Dept. For the past 20 years, he tremendously enjoyed the reunions of the 505th
Bombardment Group. Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice; his
children, John (Anne) of Kailua, HI, Bruce of Danbury, CT, and Janet of San
Francisco, CA; his brother, Barth (Martha) of Freeville; and his sister Carol
(William) Lane of Monticello. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on
Sunday, November 14, at the Community Covenant Church, 107 Pleasant Street in
Manlius. A fellowship supper following the service will be held at the church.

McConnell, Karen Marie   
November 10, 2004 Karen O'Donnell McConnell, 47, of Syracuse, died Wednesday
at home surrounded by family. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she
was a 1975 graduate of West Side Catholic High School. Karen attended Onondaga
Community College.She was employed at Wegman's Onondaga for 16 years.
Surviving are her husband, Robert of 19 years; daughter, Cailin Morgan
McConnell; mother, Irene Dennis O'Donnell; sisters, Margaret Frigon (husband,
Robert and children, Jeffrey and Jennifer), Barbara Nesci (husband, David and
children, Heather and Kimberly), Kathleen Bornstein (husband, Lonny and
children, Zachary and Abigail) and Irene Holsinger (husband, Paul and
children, Jack and Morgan) all of Syracuse; stepchildren, Erick, Kimberly and
Alicia McConnell and three step-grandchildren, all of Syracuse; and many
aunts, uncles and cousins. Karen's father, Morgan O'Donnell, Jr., predeceased
her in 1982. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Most
Holy Rosary Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

Mevoli, Cosimo   
November 10, 2004 Cosimo Mevoli, age 80, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on
Wednesday at the Atlanta Medical Center. He was born in Italy and lived in
Syracuse most of his life. He served in the Italian Navy during WWII. Cosimo
was a foreman with Eagle Lumber and then worked for the Rotondo Northway
Lumber Co. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and a member of the
Knights of St. John's at St. Peter's Church. His wife Rose Torchia Mevoli died
in 1997. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Monforte (Robert F.
Krazmien) of DeWitt, and Jean (Joseph) Cannon of Atlanta, GA; two
grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Cannon; and a sister, Maria in Italy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 8:15 a.m. in the Pirro and Sons
Funeral Home, and 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's
Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., 514 Turtle
St., Syracuse.

Miller, Anne M.   
November 11, 2004 Anne M. Miller, 84, of Onondaga Hill, died Thursday. Born in
Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and the late Winifred
(McCann) Layow. She retired in 1982 after 16 years from the New York State
Dept. of Transportation. Shewas a communicant of Cathedral of the Immaculate
Conception. She was a lifelong and big time NY Yankee's fan. She was preceded
in death by her husband, John W. Miller in 1966. Mother to her two daughters,
she was also considered mother to her numerous nieces and nephews. She was the
matriarch of the family and everyone looked to her for advice whether it was
good or bad! Anne is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Sharon
and Gary Webber of DeBary, FL and Elaine and Steven Jacobs of Fayetteville;
one sister and her husband, Mary Joan and Lee Conway of Baldwinsville; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services:
Saturday, 9:45 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Syracuse and 10:45
a.m. at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga, Syracuse

Nichols, Mary E.   
November 11, 2004 Mary E. Nichols, 88, of Bernhards Bay, died Thursday,
November 11, 2004 at her home. She was a native and life-resident of Bernhards
Bay and had once worked at Revere Silver in Rome. Surviving are two sisters,
Gladys Gloude and Leona Haskine, both of Bernhards Bay; and several nieces and
nephews. Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, November 14, 2004 at the Watson
Funeral Home, Inc., 631 So. Main St., Central Square with burial in Lakeside

November 10, 2004 Agnes Salvador, 100, of Seneca Hill Manor, died Wednesday
following a long illness. Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late
Joseph and Mary (Zoibro) Nentarz-Netters. She was a life-resident of the
Oswego area. Mrs. Salvador was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She was
predeceased by her husband, John Salvador who died in 1947. Surviving are
three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Catherine) Boni, of Oswego, Mrs. Mary Lasky of
Gardner, MA, and Mrs. Ralph (Ann) Makin of Oswego; two sons, Joseph (Elaine)
Salvador and John (Margaret) Salvador of Oswego; two sisters, Violet Potter of
Fulton and Ida Netters of Oswego; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be held 8:30 a.m. Saturday
at the Nelson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Calling hours
will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 124 West Fifth St.,

November 7, 2004 Jody Maurene Ames Spooner, 51, of Eden Prairie, died
tragically. She was a graduate of North Syracuse High School. She is survived
by her loving husband, Ted, and three devoted sons, Marc, Eric, and Craig.
Services were in Minnesota.

Stevens, Ruth J. Ryan   
November 10, 2004 Ruth J. Ryan (Lautenschlager) Stevens, 87, of Syracuse, died
Wednesday at Van Duyn Nursing Home. Born in Deferiet, NY, she was a housewife.
She was an avid bowler and attained high single game score for Women in
Syracuse in the late 1950's. Her hobbies included crocheting and collecting
owls. Survivors: one daughter, Betty McIntyre of East Syracuse; two sons,
Thomas of Louisiana and Robert of East Syracuse; three sisters, Gladys Slater
and Doris Cox, both of Fla., and Nora Oja of Pennellville; 15 grandchildren
and 15 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours or services.

November 10, 2004 George D. Wilson, 61, of Oneida Castle, died Wednesday.

Woznica, Mary   
November 10, 2004 Mary Woznica, 79, of Cicero, NY, died Wednesday, November 10
at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY. She was born in Syracuse and worked
for a brief time at General Electric. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart
Church, Cicero. Marywas a resident in Cicero since 1946 living the entire time
on the family farm. She enjoyed many family gatherings and picnics. Mary was
an avid bingo player and enjoyed Turning Stone Casino. Survivors: Her husband
of 58 years, Frederick; three sons, Frederick, Jr. (Joan), Christopher
(Pamela), Thomas (Lorrie); daughters, Mary Ann Fierro (Jim O'Brien, companion)
and Carol (Anthony) Borio; one brother, George Davis of Reno, Nevada; 12
grandchildren, Hilary, Allison, Samantha, Bridge, Joseph, Jessica, Katherine,
Thomas, Jr., Daniel, Jonathan, Rebekah, and David. Services: Memorial Mass,
Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Main Street,
Cicero, NY. Burial will be at a later date. Williams Funeral Home, Cicero are
