He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and was an Army veteran of WWII. Frank is survived by three daughters: Jean Cady of Louisville, KY; Joyce Andrews of Liverpool; and Deanna Black of Corbin, KY. Bliss, Charles Everett Stone November 12, 2004 Charles Everett Stone Bliss, 82, of Marcellus, died November 12 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Bliss was the son of Graydon Calvin Bliss and Louise Stone Bliss of Killawog, NY, and Syracuse. Mr. Bliss' father and his uncle Robert Bliss were the found-ers of Bliss Steel Products, Inc. Mr. Bliss was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a graduate of Central High School and Syracuse University. He served with the Army Transport Command in WW II. He was the manager of sales for the family company, Bliss Steel. For many years, Mr. Bliss played golf and tennis. After his retirement from Bliss Steel, he studied photography at Community College and enjoyed many trips to Montezuma Wildlife Preserve, the western national parks and Europe. Several of his photographs were published in Darshan, the magazine of the Sydha Yoga Foundation. Survived by son Charles Jr. of Marcellus; daughter Bradley of Manhattan; sons, Peter (Gail) of Brooklyn and Daniel (Lee) and grandson Simon of Kansas City; daughter, Louise of Reston, Virginia; wife Mary Bradley Bliss of Skaneateles; and brother Malcolm of Lebanon, PA. (Brandt) Bovalino, 86, of Syracuse and Cocoa Beach, FL passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004. She was born in Syracuse and was a crossing guard with the City of Syracuse for 23 years, retiring in 1979. Wilma was a commu-nicant of St. Patrick's Church in Syracuse and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a communicant of Church of Our Savior in Cocoa Beach. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Samuel A. Bovalino; a son, Samuel F. (Mary Ann) Bovalino of Liverpool; two daughters, Dolores Bovalino of Baldwinsville and Julia (Donald) Morse of Fairmount; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Christakos, Nicholas John November 11, 2004 Nicholas John Christakos, 74, of Cazenovia and Boca Grande, FL, died Thursday, November 11, in Syracuse of leukemia. He was born in Cazenovia, attended Cazenovia schools and was a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, CT. He also attended Syracuse University Graduate School of Business. Nick was founder and president of Continental Cordage until his retirement in 1987. He was very active in community affairs, having served as a Cazenovia village trustee for many years. A trustee emeritus of Cazenovia College, he worked successfully to save the school when it faced financial difficulties and received the Cazenovia College Community Service Award and President's Medallion in 1979. He was also a former trustee of Wells College, Aurora, NY. His concern for young people led him to be an active proponent of the Cazenovia Youth Hockey Association. He was an owner and president of the Syracuse Blazers professional hockey team from 1967-1972. Always a Boy Scout, he helped raise the funds to revitalize the Scout Lodge in Cazenovia. As president of the American Legion Memorial Association in Cazenovia, Nick worked tirelessly until the day he died to save, promote and revive the American Legion Memorial Hall in Cazenovia and its attendant baseball and softball fields, which are used by the high school, college and youth baseball. He was elected to the board of Oneida Savings Bank in 1974 and served for 29 years, the last six as chairman. Nick was a loyal alumnus of Trinity College and served as class agent for five years, instructing workshops at their leadership conferences. In 1992 he was presented with the Trinity College Alumni Medal for Excellence for significant contributions to his profession, his community and Trinity College. He was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He was a first lieutenant, retired from the U.S. Air Force, and belonged to the Cazenovia Club, Cazenovia Golf Club, the Boca Bay Pass Club and Lemon Bay Golf Club, where he was proud to have two holes-in-one in 2000 and another in 2001. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chittenango, NY, and junior warden of the vestry at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Boca Grande, FL. He was predeceased by his brother Louis. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Harriet; three sons: Steve of Union Pier, MI; Sparky of Cazenovia; and John of Minneapolis; their daughter, Conkie Sessler of Cazenovia; his sister, Chrisoula Christakos of Cazenovia; and nine grandchildren. It is Nick's wish that there be no calling hours or services in Cazenovia. A celebration of Nick's life is planned for a later date. Cook, Lillian Pasche November 12, 2004 Lillian Pasche Cook passed from this life on her 104th birthday. She was born in Tyre, NY, on November 12, 1900, the daughter of Reverend George Louis Pasche and Alleta Greene Pasche. Lillian was a graduate of Rushville High School and earned a degree in music from Syracuse University in 1926. Prior to her marriage, she taught voice and piano at Cazenovia College. She was married in 1933 to Paul H. Cook, who passed away in 2000 after 66 years of marriage. Lillian was a longtime member of Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Centerville Chapter of the Eastern Star in North Syracuse, NY. Lillian is survived by a son, George P. Cook, and his wife, Susan of Livingston, TX; a daughter, Marilyn C. Hartshorn, and her husband Donald of Marcy, NY; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Corsello, Salvatore "Sam" November 12, 2004 Salvatore "Sam" Corsello, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and neighbor, 95, passed away on the evening of November 12 at his home in Mattydale, NY. He was born on December 17, 1908, in the city of Colosano, on the island of Sicily. He came to America as apreschooler and lived a short while in Hell's Kitchen in New York City. The family then moved to Syracuse when he was still quite young. They lived on and around Burnet Avenue until 1948. Sam had been married for two years by that time. He bought a building lot, built his own home and moved his young family to his present address in Mattydale. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha McEneny Corsello, in 1993 and three brothers and a sister. Sam was a professional musician who played with such notable local bands as the Dick Kowell Orchestra for over 25 years. He retired from U.S. Hoffman Industries after working there for 47 years as a loyal employee. Sam and his brothers bowled in many leagues at Eastwood Sport Center. He was the last survivor of a family whose loyalty and commitment to one another was unparalleled. There are no more Corsello brothers. Anyone who knew him loved and respected him. Survivors include his daughter, Rose Mary Krause of Liverpool; his son, Julian (Nan) Corsello of Skaneateles; and four grandchildren: Krista and Mark Krause and Sarah and Steven Corsello. "Hank" November 12, 2004 Henry "Hank" D. Fiore, 80, loving husband and father, of 93 Ninth St., Oneida Castle, NY 13421, died Friday, November 12, 2004, following a two-month illness at the VA Hospital in Syracuse with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 9, 1924, in Canastota, the son of Frank and Mary Buttone Fiore. He was one of 14 children, and all were born at home. Henry graduated from Canastota High School. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1943 and participated in the invasion of Leyte Island in the Philippines in the Southwest Pacific. He received the Bronze Star for bravery and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Jane Barrington of Solvay on May 15, 1948, in St. Agatha's Church, Canastota. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. In 1952 he and his brothers opened the Medical Center Pharmacy in Oneida. Henry was part-owner, managed the lunch counter and was vice president of the company until it was sold in January 1986. Henry was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus of Oneida. Granese, USAF, 86, born February 20, 1918, in Baltimore, MD, died Thursday, November 11, 2004, in the home of his daughter Kathleen Bartlett of Sussex, NJ. Grandpa enlisted in the USAF, served 29 years, and fought honorably in WWII, Korea and Vietnam before retiring to N. Syracuse, NY, with his then wife Marcella. Marcy and Tony were lovingly married for 46 years. Mr. Granese was a proud 46-year member of Bishop Curley Council #3717, Knights of Columbus, and past grand knight. He was a past chapter president. He was a 4th-degree member and past faithful navigator of the Msgr. Jeremiah McCarthy Assembly and was a member of the Color Corps. In 1974 Tony received the Today's Patriot Award for his community service. He served as a St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church's Saturday evening usher for 20-plus years. She was a member of St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church and secretary of the Art Club (F.R.O.C.). Helen was a seamstress who sewed garments for the priest. She worked at General Electric Co., Syracuse, and was a part-time clerk in the Phoenix Post Office. Deal was active in many organizations and was a deaconess of the First Congregational Church and a member of the Scutterville Band. In later years she was a member of Pennellville United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Charles, and grandson, Charles Novak, both in 1981, and a great-grandson, David Hill Jr. of Oswego. Schiffman, Dr. William L. July 11, 2004 Dr. William L. Schiffman, 90, of Lincolnwood, Illinois, died on July 11, 2004, after a prolonged illness. Devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated physician, Dr. Schiffman practiced medicine in Mattydale for 31 years before retiring to Florida in 1977. He subsequently moved to the Chicago area to be with his family. He was born in New York City and attended Boys High and CCNY before enrolling in the Royal Medical College in Glasgow, Scotland. After graduating medical school in 1940, he returned to the States and enlisted in the Army at the outbreak of World War II. During the war, he was stationed in the Caribbean, where he taught jungle survival and eventually attained the rank of Major. He moved to Mattydale and opened his practice in general medicine in 1946. His devotion to his patients quickly earned him a large and loyal practice, and he often cared for several generations of patients in the same family. He was also active in the Syracuse area medical community and served as chief-of-staff at the former Community Hospital.
