Born in Greeley, CO she was a former secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Auburn where she was a member and former nursery school teacher. Surviving are her husband David R. Becker; her son and his wife Brian and Kelly Becker of Auburn; her mother Laurel Springstead of Auburn; brothers Leland and Steven Springstead both of Borodino; and sister Jill Henry of Newark. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, was very active with Meals on Wheels, Marion County Sr. Services volunteer, Boy Scouts, a counselor for Methodist youth, and loved butterflies, and graduated from Fabius Central School in Fabius, New York. Downing, 83, of Black Creek Rd., Kirkville, NY, passed away Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Veteran's Hospital in Syracuse. He was born September 6, 1921 in Candor, the son of the late Alonzo and Catherine Hamilton Downing. Mr. Downing lived in Kirkville for many years, and was employed by the Manlius Schools. He enjoyed working in his workshop. He is survived by a sister, Isabelle Adams of McGraw, nieces, nephews, and friends. Holton, 91, formerly of Central Square died Thursday, November 25, 2004 at her daughter's home in North Syracuse. Born in Rome, she had lived in Central Square since 1956 before moving to North Syracuse 2 years ago. She was an Inspector at General Electric Co., Liverpool for 10 years before retiring in 1962. She was a member of the Central Square M.I.A. Senior Citizens' Group and was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 1986. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps and served in Tennessee, Montana andIdaho. After serving in the Army Air Forces in the European theater in World War II, he attended Syracuse University. Upon graduation, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency and worked in Washington, D.C. and overseas before retiring in 1974. He lived in Port Richey, Florida until 2000, when he returned to Syracuse to be near his brother, sisters and many nieces and nephews. His wife, Helen Catherine Randall LaTorre preceded him in death in 1994. He is survived by his sister, Angelina LaTorre Urciuoli of Syracuse; his sons, Joseph R. LaTorre of Sonoma, CA and John LaTorre of Sacramento, CA; his daughter, Anne LaTorre Rossiter of New Port Richey, FL; and his grandchildren, Corinda Rossiter and William Joseph Rossiter of Woodbridge, VA. November 24, 2004 Theresa F. O'Neill, 80, of Manlius, passed away Wednesday at Iroquois Nursing Home after a long illness with her family by her side. Born in Syracuse, she was a graduate of Most Holy Rosary High School in 1941. She began working at Cru-cible Steel where she met her husband of 51 years, James D. O'Neill. She was a longtime resident of Elbridge where she worked at Cherry House Furniture in Camillus. She later moved to Long Valley, New Jersey and worked at Bambergers-Macy's Department Store. She retired to Manlius in 1987 as a homemaker where she enjoyed gardening, sewing and shopping. Theresa was a great conversationalist and had a great love for her children and grandchildren. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville. Survivors: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marilyn and Ted Kerwin, Patricia and Ed Connell all of Syracuse, Elise O'Neill of Casselberry, FL; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Nancy O'Neill of New Jersey and James O'Neill of Manlius; a sister, Sr. Mary Elise Frank of Scranton, PA; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Tim and Megan Kerwin, Marie and Beth Connell, Robert and Thomas O'Neill. Frederick was very active at St. John The Evangelist Church. He had a great interest in music, especially the piano and singing in the choir. She retired as an inspector with B.G. Sulzle, Inc. Shewas a volunteer for the International Students at SU and for the American Literacy Program. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Truax in 1980 and her brother, Paul Bomyea and her sister, Hilda Sawyer. November 24, 2004 Helen Brown Zych, of Manlius, died at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Geneva to Katherine (McNamara) and William Brown, she was raised in Cortland and graduated from St. Mary's HighSchool. She graduated from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and received her master's degree in education from the State University of New York at Cortland. Helen was a teacher in the Red Jacket and Jamesville-DeWitt school districts and, after raising her family, returned to work as a career counselor for the Regional Learning Service. At RLS, she was the coordinator of the Education Information Center and wrote a weekly "Learn to Work" column in the Syracuse Herald American/Post Standard. An active participant in her community, Helen was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters, serving on several League committees and as president for two terms. She was a member of Thursday Morning Roundtable and received its Award for Meritorious Community Service. Helen helped organize the Fair Campaign Practices Committee at the request of the Onondaga County Board of Elections. She served on the executive committees of the Onondaga Citizens League, Onondaga County Charter Commission, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Citizens Advisory Committee to the Family Court and the Onondaga Lake Partnership. The beneficiaries of Helen's numerous volunteer hours include the Manlius Village Library, the Manlius Historical Society and the F-M Food Pantry. She was an active member of St. Ann's Church in Manlius. Survivors: her beloved husband of 46 years, Louis E. Zych; children, Anne Mary of Albany, John of Syracuse, Kathleen (William) Buchanan of Altamont and Kevin (Jessica) of Weston, CT; six grandchildren, Meghan, Michael and Katherine Buchanan, and Andrew, Oliver and Ellery Zych; her brother, William E. Brown of Cortland; and a large, loving, extended family. Memorial Service: Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's Church, Manlius.
