He was an Army veteran of WWII; while serving in the European Theater he par-ticipated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Jack owned and operated Schultz's Restaurant in Mattydale from 1956 to 1973 and then operated Schultz's Liquors on the North Side and was a car salesman for Courtesy Ford in Mattydale until his retirement in 1980. Catherine graduated from Jordan HIgh School in 1929 and took a year's teaching training course at Oswego Normal School. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse for a year before she was married. She was a retired employee of Harris Red & White Store and a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Baldwinsville. Born in Fulton, she worked for the town of Salina in the office of the assessor for many years. Mrs. Turtura was an active member of North Central Assembly of God and amember of VFW Post #5540 Ladies Auxiliary. She is predeceased by her father and mother, George and Laura Martin, and her brother, Stephen Martin. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard; son, John R. Turtura and his fiancee Margery Snyder of Michigan; son and daughter-in-law, Richard R. and Rose Turtura of Oregon; daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and James Lindberg of Virginia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Besides her family, Mrs. Turtura is survived by many wonderful friends and neighbors. Verish Jr., Nicholas November 25, 2004 Nicholas Verish Jr, 52, of Cicero, NY, died Thursday at home. Mr. Verish was born in Cincinnati, OH; he was the son of Nicholas and the late Gloria Hammer Verish, who predeceased him on March 17, 2002. Mr. Verish received his bachelor's de-gree from Juanita College and his master's degree in petroleum geology from Oklahoma State University. He was a petroleum geologist, employed by many oil companies. He is survived by his father, Nicholas P. Verish Sr. of North Syracuse; and one sister, Lori J. Verish of Liverpool. Zych, Helen B. November 24, 2004 Helen Brown Zych, of Manlius, died at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Geneva to Katherine (McNamara) and William Brown, she was raised in Cortland and graduated from St. Mary's HighSchool. She graduated from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and received her master's degree in education from the State University of New York at Cortland. Helen was a teacher in the Red Jacket and Jamesville-DeWitt school districts and, after raising her family, returned to work as a career counselor for the Regional Learning Service. At RLS, she was the coordinator of the Education Information Center and wrote a weekly "Learn to Work" column in the Syracuse Herald American/Post Standard. An active participant in her community, Helen was a longtime member of the League of Women Voters, serving on several League committees and as president for two terms. She was a member of Thursday Morning Roundtable and received its Award for Meritorious Community Service. Helen helped organize the Fair Campaign Practices Committee at the request of the Onondaga County Board of Elections. She served on the executive committees of the Onondaga Citizens League, Onondaga County Charter Commission, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Citizens Advisory Committee to the Family Court and the Onondaga Lake Partnership. The beneficiaries of Helen's numerous volunteer hours include the Manlius Village Library, the Manlius Historical Society and the F-M Food Pantry. She was an active member of St. Ann's Church in Manlius. Survivors: her beloved husband of 46 years, Louis E. Zych; children, Anne Mary of Albany, John of Syracuse, Kathleen (William) Buchanan of Altamont and Kevin (Jessica) of Weston, CT; six grandchildren, Meghan, Michael and Katherine Buchanan, and Andrew, Oliver and Ellery Zych; her brother, William E. Brown of Cortland; and a large, loving, extended family. Memorial Service: Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann's Church, Manlius.
