He retired after a long service with Carrier Corporation and was a former member of the Syracuse Brigadiers. Victor was an avidgardener with a large vegetable and flower garden. He was a lifelong communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Born in Pollutri, Chieti, Italy, she has lived in the Syracuse and Solvay area since she was eight years old. Elvira was an assembler at Pass & Seymour for a short time, then worked at General Electric as an assembler for 25 years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Solvay Tigers Ladies Auxiliary, communicant of St. Cecilia's Church, and member of its Altar and Rosary Society. Elvira was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 1983 and daughter Concetta Bennie in 1992. Survivors are one daughter, Carolyn Femano of Solvay; two sons, Dominick (Marilyn) Ciarla of Memphis and Louis (Marie) Ciarla of Solvay; two sisters, Julia Albrigo of Westvale and Edith DePietro of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Colton, Russell Smith October 5, 2004 Russell Smith Colton, of Jamesville, NY, died at Crouse Hospital Tuesday evening, October 5, 2004, after a brief bout with pneumonia and a 40-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. He was a lifelong learner and lover of reading, history, music, ten-nis, flying and family life. Through admonition and example he always encouraged others to "Never despair" and to "Fight the good fight". Born in 1921 to American parents in Havana, Cuba, Mr. Colton grew up in Indiana, PA, earned his B.A. from Allegheny College and his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. During WW II, Mr. Colton was a B-25 pilot in the Marine Air Corps, and later in life he taught flying lessons in the Rochester area. Mr. Colton held positions with Goodyear and Xerox, and was the owner and president of Doty Oil Company in Fulton, Computer Solutions in DeWitt, and Cortland Tire Service. Throughout his life he was a tireless volunteer for Rotary, Jaycees, church and school committees, and most recently he was a literacy volunteer and was active at the Nottingham. Mr. Colton was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Kathryn Smith Colton; his sister, Helen Elizabeth Colton; sons, Russell and Christopher; daughters, Tamison, Connelly and Rebecca; and 11 grandchildren. DeFoster Sr., 82, of Camillus, died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He lived in Syracuse until moving to Camillus in 1959. Employed by the VA Medical Center, he retired in 1969 after 20 years. He was also formerly employed by Sam Rao Florist for eight years, retiring in 1978. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II and communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Nancy Mastriano; daughters, Barbara (Jim) Aureli of Camillus and Nancy (Ron) Calley of Onondaga Hill; son, Anthony (Christine) of Skaneateles; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Galvin, 78, of Route 48, Minetto, died at home after a long battle with heart and pulmonary disease. He was a lifelong resident of the Oswego area. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later served in En-gland in the U.S. Air Force. He was an active member of the VFW Post 569 and the American Legion Post 587, both in Fulton. Fred was employed at Sealright Corp., Crucible Steel, and 16 years with the solid waste division Oswego D.P.W. He was an avid bowler and participated in the golf league of Fulton Alliance Church. (Stever) Koegel, 85, native and life resident of Allen Road in North Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired in 1982 after 40 years with General Electric. Arleta was a member of the Liverpool-Baldwinsville OES Chapter #219, and enjoyed participating in Civil War Enactments, outdoor activities and bingo. She was the last surviving of nine children. She was born October 1, 1908 in Syracuse, daughter of Roy and Rose Ruetsch Baker. She graduated from Auburn Memorial Hospital with a RN Degree in 1929. She was employed at Faxton Hospital in Utica for 10 years. She was also employed at Corning and Oswego Hospitals. She was married to John T. LaFave, October 2, 1930; he died March 3, 1989. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Parish and a member of the NYS Retired Nurse's Association. Emily was the President of the Liverpool American Legion Jr. Auxiliary #188. Surviving are her parents, Mark F. and Kelly R. Ziparo of Pennellville; one brother, Ryan Ziparo; one sister, Melissa Ziparo, both at home; paternal grandmother, Toni Kane of Liverpool; maternal grandparents, Richard and Rosetta Garlic of Pennellville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
