Mr. Albert was employed by Syracuse Insulation as a insulator for 24 years. He Served in the U.S. Navy during Korean Conflict. Born on September 1, 1933 in Syracuse, the son of John Albert and Hazel (Gallagher) Albert. "Pete" Besner, age 83, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a long illness. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a driver and salesman with Atlas Linen Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1984, and was a member of the Local #316. His son, James R. Besner, died in 1984. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Genevieve J. (Sakowski) Besner; three daughters, Beverly J. DeYulio of Howlett Hill, Barbara J. Fox of Camillus, Phyllis M. Dana of Westvale; a son, Robert J. Mr. Blanks attended schools in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked in the Human Resources De-partment of Lucent Technologies, Western Electric, and AT&T Retiring in 1998. She was an accomplished artist, published writer, and involved in many community philanthropic projects. Born on April 2, 1924, to A. Andrew and Helen O'Reilly Shafferin Syracuse. She was predeceased by her brother John and twin brother Eugene. A graduate of Nottingham High in 1942, she attended Syracuse University, class of 1945. The family spent summers on Carleton Island on the Thousand Islands. Jane's community work included fund raising and public relations for Onondaga Hill Community Association, Onondaga Road PTA, the Syracuse Symphony Guild, St. Ann's Church, Everson Museum of Art, and Syracuse University Alumni of which she became president in 1970. Jane's Christmas Ornament business in 1956 had showrooms on Fifth Avenue. Jane founded the Towne Shop, Village of Camillus Youth Center. In 1982, Jane won an award for her paintings and exhibited at the Everson Museum, DeWitt Art Open, and Limestone Art Gallery. Jane also wrote two books, Willie Shakespeare and Burkes Law. Her work is listed in the Library of Congress and Who's Who of America, 1966. Jane received from Theta Sigma Phi, professional journalism award for publicity. She is survived by her sons, Robert and Michael Burke; daughters, Sheila Burke, Patricia Burke, Mimi Mahshi, and Kathleen Burke; and seven grandchildren. Castle, formerly of Syracuse, died in Walnut Creek, California, on September 23, 2004. He was 84. A native of Williamstown, NY, he served in the Army in WWII and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Syracuse University. He was a devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. His wife, Esha (Sweeney) Castle and son, William W., preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Teresa, of Concord, CA; a grandson, Sean Castle of Ceres, CA; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She retired from Community General Hospital in 1990 as a medical transcriber with over 20 years of service. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Leslie G. Derby, John L. "Jack" October 6, 2004 John L. "Jack" Derby, 80, of 817 Whiting Road, Jordan, died Wednesday in VanDuyn Home & Hospital. Born in Syracuse, Mr. Derby lived in the Jordan-Elbridge area most of his life. He was a 1941 graduate of Jordan High School and in 1943, Mr. Der-by enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served his country during W.W. II receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Mr. Derby was a farmer for several years and he was also employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Jordan United Methodist Church and a former member of the Town of Elbridge Republican Committee, Tuesday Night Golf League, and Rainbow Lanes Bowling League. Surviving are his wife, the former Norma Maxon; two sons, Michael Derby and Andrew Derby, both of Cato; a daughter, Lucinda Derby of Kirkville; three sisters, Joan Miller and Pauline Caslake, both of AZ, and Alma Ballester of Camillus; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Hayes, Dolores Orzell October 6, 2004 Dolores Orzell Hayes, 78, of Onondaga Hill, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and communicant of St. Michael's Church, Onon-daga Hill. Dolores was also an auxiliary member and longtime supporter of the Chadwick Residence, and had been active with Vera House. An avid golfer, she was a member of West Hill Ladies Golf League. A devoted wife and homemaker, Dolores took great pride and joy in her children and grandchildren, and was active in their lives. Genealogy, sewing, and gardening were also among her interests. Her husband, Carl A. Hayes, passed away in January, and son James in 1981. She was also predeceased by her brother, Robert Orzell. Surviving are her daughters, Roberta Zerrahn of Farmington, Nancy (Ralph) Cinnamon of Onondaga Hill; sons, J. Kevin (Mary) of Camillus, Robert (Judy) of Liverpool, Patrick (Christine) of Weedsport, and Douglas of Onondaga Hill; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
