October 11, 2004 John J. DeLorenzo Sr., 84, of VanDuyn, died Monday. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Solvay High School and served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. Mr. DeLorenzo was the owner of Gafney Press and played for the Syracuse Cyclones and was in Senior World Series Tournaments. He was a member of the Senior Citizens 75 Year and Older Softball World Series Champions in 2000. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Delphi and Moose Clubs. Mr. Schwitter was a self-employed Electrician, establishing Schwitter Electric in 1963. He was previously an Electrician with Paul Brossus Co. and Morgan Badgley Co. He attended the First Baptist Church of Chittenango. Mr. Schwitter was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a life-member of the WM. Cain American Legion Post 1287 and a member of the Chittenango Veteran of Foreign Wars Post. He was also a member of the Swiss Social Club and the Onondaga Co. Electrical Contractors Association. He was a longtime volunteer with the Sullivan Food Cupboard. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former, Barbara J. Himes; a son, Robert B. Sternberg, 94, of the Cunningham at Loretto of Syracuse, passed from this life on Thursday, September 30, 2004, to be with the Lord and Savior. Jack, with his family in attendance, died peacefully. He was predeceased by his wife Isabel Stevens Sternberg in the year 2000. Survivors: sister, Reatha J. Walton of Syracuse; brother, Harold L. Sternberg of Richland; several nieces and nephews. He lived in Parish and graduated from Parish High School. He worked for Strickland Motors as an auto mechanic and service manager for several years, then moved on to building and trades, becoming a cabinet maker. He and his wife lived in Baldwinsville, and upon retirement, resided in Zephyrhills, Florida. From Florida, they traveled extensively throughout the U.S.A. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter. His hobbies were photography and jewelry making. He was an inspiration to all of us. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2004, from the Hope Presbyterian Church, 4962 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY.
