Bernardini October 13, 2004 Elizabeth "Betty" Staiano Bernardini, 74, of
Mattydale, passed away Wednesday at home. Born in Syracuse, she was a life
resident of the Syracuse area, was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, and
a member of the Altar and Rosa-ry Society, and volunteered at St. Margaret's
Bingo. Betty retired from Niagara Mohawk where she worked for 30 years, and
also was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital. Survivors: her daughter, Diane
(Robert) Tedd of Bridgeport; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services Saturday 9:30 a.m. at FARONE & SON, and 10 a.m. in St.
Margaret's Church. Burial in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 4 to 7

October 12, 2004 Dorothy V. Jagielski Botz, 81, of Solvay, died Tuesday at
home. Born in Syracuse, she was a graduate of Nottingham High School and had
worked at Fair City Savings and Lennox Furnace. She was a communicant of St.
Cecilia's Church and a member of the Solvay Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary,
Prospect Hose. Co. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph N. Botz in 1998
and a son. Survivors: her daughters, Harriet A. (Loren) LaRue of Camillus and
Mary E. Botz of N. Syracuse; sons, Joseph P. (Jeanne) of New Port Richie, FL,
Terrance J. (Catherine) of Constantia, and William T. (Denise) of Solvay;
eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Butler, Robert B.   
October 12, 2004 Robert B. Butler, 87, of Baldwinsville, passed away Tuesday
at Community General Hospital. Robert was a native of Syracuse and graduated
from Vocational High School. He retired from the Onondaga County Board of
Elections where he was employed as a voting machine custodian. Following the
death of his father-in-law, Rudolph Borne, Robert, along with his wife and
mother-in-law, Mildred, continued to operate their family's business, Borne
Sauerkraut Company, which was located on the city's north side until 1963.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Borne Butler; sons, Robert
(Luisa) Butler of Miami, FL and Dick (Susan) Butler of Liverpool; daughter,
Judith (William) Carl of Liverpool; grandchildren, Susan Carl of Louisville,
KY, Bill (Rebecca) Carl of Seattle, WA, Marc (Kathy) Butler of Newtown, PA,
Kristin (John) Enright of Baldwinsville, Scott Butler, Elizabeth Butler and
Stephen Butler all of Liverpool; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Grace Butler of
Newtown, PA; sister, Kathleen Butler Krause of Solvay and several nieces,

Denmark, Jean (Kelly)   
Jean (Kelly) Denmark October 8, 2004 Robert, 66, and Jean, 67, of Burnet Ave.,
Syracuse, died Friday from heat exposure in their apartment. Robert had worked
for 20 years for the city Department of Public Works, and Jean had spent most
of her life caring for her 10 children. Survived by five sons, Bob Scott,
Stephen Scott, Gary Denmark, Richard Denmark, Bill Denmark; four daughters,
Beverly Sullivan, Ann Lobdel, Brenda Wolfe, Mary Ann Denmark; numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and Robert's sister Edith Burke.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at B.L. Bush & Sons, 10 Genesee St., Camillus.

Dillon, Joan Banach   
October 12, 2004 Joan Banach Dillon, 75, of Fairmount, died Tuesday at
Community General Hospital. Born in Syracuse on January 12, 1929, she was the
daughter of Edward Banach and Cecelia Neumayer. A lifetime resident of the
Syracuse area, she was asenior clerk for the State of New York Surrogate
Court. Joan was a communicant of Holy Family Church for 12 years and member of
the Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a longtime supporter of the food
pantry and local youth groups. She was a former communicant of Most Holy
Rosary Church. Surviving are her daughters, Joan (Patrick) Marshall of
Warners, Peg (Terry) Curtin of Onondaga Hill and Carol (Ronald) Zoll of
Fairmount; sisters, Cecelia Racht and Katherine Paige, both of Syracuse; seven
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 12:30 p.m.
Friday at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 1 p.m.
in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may

accident at his home. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Onondaga-Madison
County BOCES. He worked in construction and enjoyed shooting pool in his spare

Loretto Heights Nursing Home in Oswego. Born in Solvay, she resided in West
Monroe over 40 years before moving to Parish. Mrs. Graves worked as a
Comptroller/Accountant for Kraft Foods. She was predeceased by her husband,
Warren in 1994. She is survived by three sons, Rodney (Genevieve) of
Brewerton, Randy (Jean) of West Monroe, and Roy (Florence) of Parish; a
sister, Lucille Hamann of E. Syracuse; and eight grandchildren. Graveside
services will be Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Greenlawn

Kelly, Robert Wayne   
October 2, 2004 Robert "Bob" Kelly, 50, of Morrisville, passed away October 2,
2004, in Memphis, TN. He was born in Hamilton, NY, on October 1, 1954, and was
a graduate of Morrisville-Eaton Central High School. He earned a trade from
Allied Music Corporation in Elkhorn, WI, and was most recently employed by
AMRO Music in Memphis. He was a musical instrument technician and was very
well respected throughout the music industry. He was also an avid outdoorsman
and lover of nature. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald L. Kelly and
Beverly M. Kelly (Matteson). Surviving are a sister, Michele Kelly of Oneida;
a brother, George Kelly of Morrisville; and four daughters, Jamie Kelly
McClure of Liverpool, Whitney Kelly Carlevatti of Webster, and Colleen Kelly
and Caitlin Kelly of San Marcos, CA; as well as many beloved family and
friends. There will be a memorial Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in

Maxwell, Blair Adams   
October 13, 2004 Blair Adams Maxwell, 43, of Richmond, VA, formerly of Oswego,
passed away October 13, 2004. He is survived by his mother, Susan Maxwell;
father, George and his wife Rosa; two brothers, Bruce and his wife Roxanne,
and Scott; one niece, Kaitlyn; one nephew, Nathaniel; and several aunts,
uncles and cousins. While in high school, Blair earned the rank of Eagle Scout
and was awarded an ROTC scholarship to Davidson College. He served in the U.S.
Army as a captain in the Signal Corps while based in Germany. Blair did
graduate work at VCU in art history. He taught in Naples, Italy, for several
years at a Montessori school. Mr. Maxwell was employed by the Housing
Department at VCU. From 1997 to 1999, he was the summer arts director at
Shrine Mont Camp. A prayer service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 15,
at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. A burial service and interment will be held
2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, at Shrine Mont Camp in Northwestern Virginia. In

October 12, 2004 Maralaine Mullady, age 81 (she was 39 for 41 years), of N.
Syracuse, NY, died Tuesday at home after a long illness. Miss Mullady was born
in Syracuse. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Edyth Jones Mullady.
She was a graduate of Central High School and life resident of the Syracuse
area. Miss Mullady was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Liverpool and a
member of Daughters of Columbus, BPW of North Syracuse, Syracuse Federation

and of Chittenango the past 15 years. She had attended school in the

grandmother, Audrey Conners of Fayetteville; a brother, William E. Recore Jr.

October 12, 2004 Joseph N. Romano Jr., 77, of Westvale, passed away
unexpectedly on October 12, 2004. A lifelong resident of Syracuse, Mr. Romano
retired from the meat business after 50 years, having worked at Balduzzi's
Market in Solvay and Smith's IGA in Fayetteville. He served his country in
WWII and the Korean War, and in retirement, loved spending time with his
family. Survivors: his loving wife of 54 years, Rose Carmella; one daughter
and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Lafaver of Liverpool; one son, Mark of
Syracuse; sister, Angie Brigandi; two brothers, Mario (Connie) and Carmen
Romano; four grandchildren, T.J., Nichole, Mary and Josh; several nieces and

October 13, 2004 Madlen Salameh, 67, of Syracuse, died Wednesday at Crouse
Hospital. She was born in Bietjalla, The Holy Land, and came to Syracuse in
1978. She was the daughter of Adeeb and Jameela Majlaton. She was a devoted
wife and loving mother. She was a member of St. Elias Orthodox Church. She is
survived by her husband of 47 years, Edmon; two sons, Sari (Sophie) Salameh,
Khader (Siecile) Salameh; three daughters, Suhair (Jeff) Jones, Salwa (Jaki)
Musallam, Sawsan (Kamal) Awwad, all of Syracuse; a sister, Afiefa Alnemeri,
Philadelphia, PA; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and was

October 13, 2004 Ethel J. (DeCosta) Simao, 91, a longtime resident of Solvay,
passed away Wednesday at Robert L. Yeager Health Center, Pomona, NY. Born in
Gouveia, Portugal, Mrs. Simao worked at Camillus Cutlery, Learbury's and St.
Camillus Health andRehabilitation Center. Anyone who knew Ethel knew of her
devotion to her family and her talent for cooking and baking her famous
Portugese dishes. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio, and her sons,
Anthony and Joseph. Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law; Mary Lou and
Robert Smith, of Monsey, NY; daughter-in-law, Betsy Simao, of Solvay; a
brother, Anthony DeCosta, of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren, Lisa Cavallaro

October 10, 2004 William S. Wilcox, 66, of Hamilton, died Sunday, October 10,
2004, at Community Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be private at the
