Barbara, Carol Barbara (Barrow) Ryan October 23, 2004 Carol Barbara (Barrow) Ryan, 54, of Liverpool, passed away Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a courageous fight against cancer. Born in Syracuse, October 6, 1950, she graduated North Syracuse High School in 1968 and State University ofPlattsburgh in 1972. She worked for R.M. Scanlon Associates for a number of years. Carol was an avid golfer and a member of Arrowhead Golf Course. Those nearest to her will remember her for her spirit in the darkest of times, her loyalty and devotion to them and her compassion for, and love of, animals. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her father, Wesley Barrow, and sister, Janice Barrow, predeceased her. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church of Syracuse. She is survived by her husband, James F. Ryan of Liverpool; her mother, June Barrow of Liverpool, a stepson, Michael J. He was the son of Adelbert and Harriet Benson formerly of Hall Road, Oswego. He was a graduate of Cornell University and Syracuse University and was employed as a research chemist at Allied Chemical for 34 years until his retirement in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Jane Powers Benson, and predeceased by his son, Robert Walter Benson. Caldwell, Charlotte October 21, 2004 Charlotte Caldwell of Cleveland, passed away Thursday at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany. She was born in Erie, PA, and lived in Cleveland, NY, for 50 years. She graduated from SUNY Oswego and taught at Cleveland Elementary for 30 years. She volunteered for another 15 years after her retirement. Most of her classroom time was spent in the sixth grade. She was very active in the Eastern Stars. She was predeceased by her sister Virginia Haber and her brother Laurence Caldwell. Survivors: brothers: Eden W. Mary Frances served in Afghanistan with the Peace Corps for two years, 1963 to 1965. She worked with the Secret Service for many years before retiring in 1980. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Syracuse with her husband and two daughters. She was married at St. Malachy's Church in Brooklyn, NY, in 1940 and was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Liverpool. She was a devoted mother and wife and worked in her later years at Community General Hospital, retiring in 1977. She and her husband retired to North Carolina and Virginia before moving back to Syracuse to be with her family. Pappas, Vasiliki "Vaso" October 23, 2004 Vasiliki "Vaso" Pappas, of Rochester, formerly of Syracuse, died Saturday. Mrs. Pappas was very active with the Philoptochos group at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Syracuse. She held various offices in the Daughters of Penelope, was president for two years and awarded the 1968 Alkippe Chapter "Penelope of the Year." While in Syracuse, she was an officer and on the board of the Council of Mothers' Clubs and a volunteer at the Everson Museum and the Syracuse Girls Clubs. After moving to Rochester, she was active in, and treasurer of, the Greek Church Senior Citizens Club, a volunteer for ABVI and The Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital, and was treasurer and a board member of Brighton Memorial Library. She was predeceased by her husband George A. Pappas. She is survived by her daughter, Anastasia "Stacy" (Pluto) Poulios; son, C. Andrew (Tricia) Pappas of Syracuse; grandchildren: George Poulios, Demetrios (Abigail) Poulios, Andrea (Josh) Pappas-Dylan and Valeri Pappas. The family greatly appreciates the loving care given to Mrs. Pappas by Dr. Russell P. Maggio and his staff, and the nurses and staff at Wilmot Treatment Center at Strong. Born in Superior, WI, of Norwegian parents, she was a resident of the Syracuse area for 69 years. An accomplished violinist, Mrs. Parsons stud-ied violin privately in Philadelphia and at Temple University and graduated from the University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music, majoring in violin and piano. She was a former member of Sigma Alpha Iota musical sorority, former Syracuse Home Association Board Member, a past president of Portfolio Club and a former member of Skaneateles Country Club. She was an active member of Plymouth Church for many years, joining Dewitt Community Church following her move to The Nottingham 14 years ago. Her husband John C. Parsons died in 1973; daughter Karen P. Duncker predeceased her in 1999 and great-grandson Auguste C. Duncker in 2004. She is survived by two children, Charles R. She was born in Syracuse on February 10, 1968, and has been a resident of Fulton for 14 years. Mrs. Shatraw was an avid pokerplayer who enjoyed taking part in tournaments. Thomas, Mack October 18, 2004 Mr. Mack "Daddy Mack" Thomas, 82, of 404 Beattie St., went home to be with the Lord on Monday at Crouse Hospital after a sudden illness. He was member of Brotherly Love Church of God in Christ, where he served as chairman of the Deacons'Board. He was formerly employed at General Electric for 32 years, until his retirement in 1985.
