Lynn Wilder October 30, 2004 M. Lynn Wilder Cooney, of Liverpool, died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born December 13 in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She lived most of her adult life in the Baldwinsville area. She worked as a portrait colorist for Carnation Studios, droveschool bus for the Baldwinsville schools for nine years and owned the Baldwinsville School of Dance, where she taught ballet, jazz, tap and Appalachian clogging for 15 years. Lynn graduated as a registered nurse in 1985 and worked as nurse manager of the Nurses' Professional Registry for three years and then for the Poison Control Center of CNY for seven years, retiring in 2001. She then worked as a substitute teaching assistant for the Baldwinsville School District. Lynn was a long-standing member and past board member of the Baldwinsville Theater Guild, for which she choreographed and performed in many productions. She performed for Theater 90, for 14 years she was a judge for the NY State Fair talent competition and also the NY State Talented Miss competition. She was a den mother in Cub Scout Pack 103 for 10 years. Lynn was very active in Grace Episcopal church, where she was involved with Altar Guild, nursery, as a member of the Vestry, an advisor to the Youth Group and as a Sunday School teacher. Her interests and activities also included participation as an active board member of McHarrie's Legacy for 14 years, where she wrote and directed two productions each year at Shacksboro Schoolhouse Museum; she played trumpet for the Baldwinsville Community Band; was a room mother for VanBuren Elementary School; and worked as an usher at the Onondaga Civic Center. Lynn was a season ticket holder for SU sports. She enjoyed golf and for two years was president of Foxfire's 18-Hole Women's League. Her hobbies included needlecraft and gardening. She was predeceased by her first husband, F.F. "Pete" Wilder; her sister, Sally McCoy; and her half brother, Fred Merrill. Survivors: her husband, Paul T. Born in Summerville, GA, Mr. Johnson was a former superintendent of the Syracuse City School District. Mr. Johnson also served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a major. Jane's dedicated volunteerism began during WWII, at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Later, she was an active volunteer at the SUNY Upstate Medical Center Chemotherapy Department,the Boca Raton Hospital Emergency Department and earned the distinction of being the first breast cancer survivor to volunteer in a pioneer program to help others suffering from the same disease. Born in Manhattan and educated in Switzerland, Jane was a resident of Delray Beach, FL. Mrs. Lichtman, a member of Temple Adath Yeshurun, was predeceased by her beloved husband, Retired Colonel Alfred Lichtman, USMC, in 1991. Survived by her daughter Victoria; son Jonathan (Betsy); grandchildren, Jared and Jenna Lichtman; as well as Valerie and all the many others whose hearts she touched and considered her a loving mother and friend. Sutphen, a longtime resident of Liverpool, passed away Friday on her 100th birthday. Hazel was born October 29, 1904, at 1912 East Fayette St., Syracuse, NY to Fred and Sarah Bishop. She grew up in Syracuse, where she graduatedfrom 8th grade at Elmwood School in 1918. She then attended Central High School and Central City Business Institute. On March 17, 1923, she married Kent Sutphen, and they enjoyed 70 years together until Kent's death in 1993. Hazel and Kent moved from Euclid to Liverpool in 1949. Hazel was a member of First United Methodist Church of Liverpool from then until her death. She was involved with its ladies group and seniors fellowship group. She also volunteered at the church and for FISH for many years. Hazel started traveling at a young age. She remembered going by train from Syracuse to Fonda, NY, and then taking the stagecoach to the Caroga Lake area to visit her grandparents. She and Kent traveled across the U.S., and to Hawaii and Canada. They also traveled to Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Caribbean. In 1988 she and her son, Bruce, went to Cody, Wyoming, to a Bishop family reunion. She and Kent square danced until they were both into their 80s. Hazel was an avid card player and always enjoyed a spirited game of pitch. Hazel was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, fondly called "Granny Cookies" by her family and friends. Everyone who came to her home went away with a bag of her cookies. Her mailman came in every day for his "cookie fix" and to check on her. She baked her special cookies until she finally hung up her cookie apron at age 98. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Rech of Venice, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Eva Sutphen of Liverpool; one stepbrother, Frank Rhodes of Johnstown, NY; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Terzulli, Nicholas October 30, 2004 Nicholas Terzulli, 77, of State Rte. 48, Fulton, died at Oswego Hospital. He was born in, and has remained a life resident of, Fulton. He retired in 1990 from Sealright as the maintenance manager. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy as anelectrician during WWII and the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a lifetime member of the Fulton VFW. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Terzulli of Fulton; his son, Leonard (Linda) Terzulli; his brother, Vito Terzulli of FL; three sisters: Laura Bullock of New Haven, Judith Smura of CA and Carrie Starzak of FL; five grandchildren: Stephen Terzulli, Aaron Terzulli, Jeramie Terzulli, Damon Terzulli and Nicholas Terzulli. Testa, Dr. Janice Hulett September 27, 2004 Dr. Janice Hulett Testa died in her home in South Orange, NJ, on Monday, September 27, 2004, after a three-year battle with cancer. She was buried on October 2, 2004, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Testa was born in Detroit, MI, on August 22, 1931, and grew up in Armada, MI. She received her bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She received her Ph.D. in romance languages and literature, with a concentration in French. Dr. Testa was a Fulbright scholar and studied in Paris, France. She was a professor at Beloit College, Wisconsin; University of Illinois at Champagne, Urbana before moving to Syracuse in 1965. She was a French and Spanish professor at LeMoyne College for over 20 years. Dr. Testa was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, Syracuse, and served on the Board of Trustees and as church moderator. She was a social activist dedicated to mission work with refugees in Africa, Central America and Haiti. She was also deeply committed to Plymouth's efforts in becoming both a Sanctuary Church and an Open and Affirming Church. Dr. Testa is survived by her husband, Dr. Daniel P. Testa; two daughters, Elizabeth Testa Licata and husband Nick R. Licata, of South Orange, NJ; and Alicia M. Santamaria and husband Manuel J. Santamaria, of South San Francisco, CA; granddaughter, Sofia Desdamona Licata; grandson, Mateo Daniel Santamaria; a cousin, Rodney Chubb of Westland, MI; aunt, Louise Chubb; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
