Mark was a general aviation pilot who owned Cessna Aircraft, belonged to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and was a technical advisor for and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Guy, Karen August 12, 2004 Karen Guy, age 55, died from breast cancer at University Hospital, Tucson, Arizona on August 12, 2004, after a 17-year struggle. She was an inspiration to many as she lived her life to the fullest, and in her doctor's words "she had more lives thana cat." She is survived by her partner of 18 years, Jan Tuttle, her parents, Glen and Virginia Guy, Uncle Jim and Aunt Betty Guy, Aunt Grace Guy, and numerous friends in Tucson, AZ and Syracuse. Special friends and relatives include Carol Schaal, Karen Johnson, Vel and Don Peters, Rob and Stan, Gary, Todd and Kathy, Craig and Claire, and Harriett. After her first treatment for breast cancer, Karen was appalled by the experience. Exasperated by Karen's complaints, a nurse told her, "If you think you can do better, whey don't you become a nurse." So, Karen became an RN, certified in oncology, and worked at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Karen advocated fiercely on her patients' behalf. Words cannot convey the range and depth of Karen's interests. An avid stitcher, she worked at the Busy Needle in Tucson; she learned many techniques and created beautiful pieces of needlework. She loved to travel in the US and abroad with her relatives and friends. She enjoyed the challenge of meeting new people and savoring their cultures. Martin, Muriel Louise Gaffney August 19, 2004 Muriel Louise Gaffney Martin passed away peacefully on August 19, 2004 at her home in Holly Hill, Florida. Muriel, born in Williamsport, PA in 1937 was formerly a resident of Chittenango, NY. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1957 and received her Nursing Degree from Jefferson Community College. She retired from Hutchings Psychiatric Hospital. While Muriel was raising her five daughters in Carthage, NY, she was active in the Community Church, PTA and the Girl Scouts. She was active for 32 years in scouting and taught swimming at Camp Trefoil in Harrisville, NY. She was also an avid Syracuse Orangemen fan. Former wife of Ellis R. Martin, Jr., of Afton, NY, she is survived by her daughters and their families. Kim Antonelli (Lee Button) and her children; Leah Turner (Keith) Jordan and Lee III and grandson, Brandon; Michelle Koester (Mark) and her children, Josh (Rosa), Eric, Jake and Kalle and her granddaughter, Julia; Amber Demarest (Dan); Erin Nohle and her children, Rachel and Christopher. He was born in Syracuse and graduated from North High School and Powelson Business School. George is a lifetime active member of Friedens United Church of Christ, the Men's Fellowship, served on the Church Board, various committees and sang in the choir until his health failed. He was a Mason with the Liverpool/Syracuse #501 Lodge for over 60 years, a member of Central City Bodies A.A.S.R. and the Salina Town Hall Seniors. The husband of Amelia "Molly" Siiss Sparck, he was born in Yorktown, TX, son of the late W.J. and Caroline Thieme Sparck. A resident of the Albany area since 1983, Carl also had resided in Liverpool and North Syracuse for several years. He served in the US Air Force in the early 1960s and was stationed in Japan, St. Albans, VT, and Hancock Air Force Base in Syracuse. Mr. Sparck was a phone representative with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for 15 years, retiring in 2000. He previously was employed by Kemper Insurance in Syracuse and Albany. Carl was an Elder of the Colonie Alliance Church of the Christian & Missionary Alliance in Albany. He was a former scout master of BSA Troop 92, in North Syracuse, for ten years. Mr. Tancredi was born May 2, 1920 in Amsterdam, New York, son of the late Luigi Tancredi and Felicia Martuscella Tancredi. He had been a resident of the Palm Beaches since 1977 coming from Syracuse, New York. Mr. Tancredi was an employee with General Motors Syracuse plant retiring in 1977. During WWII he served his country with the US Army. He was a communicant of St. Clare Catholic Church, North Palm Beach and was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Mae Rhodes Tancredi in July 1996 and his grandson, Kevin Namisniak in January 1985.
